Founded in 2015, Ascend is a fast growing, locally owned professional firm that provides accounting and financial management consulting services to companies throughout Vermont. As former full-time CFOs, Controllers, and/or Accounting Managers, we helped financially build some of Vermont’s iconic companies and their respective accounting and finance functions.

Within an open books environment, you’ll receive a highly competitive base wage which can expand via a generous profit sharing plan funded by the future continued success of our engagements. Our goal is to pay out a majority of profits at year end to those who have worked hard to make the firm successful.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Fractional Controller for multiple client companies, you are empowered to:

• Oversee the day-to-day activities of a client’s accounting staff. Help select, train, and coach employees to develop and maintain the team so that they are continually functioning at a high level.

• Document key processes, make recommendations, and support a client in their pursuit of a best-in-class accounting function.

• Develop and administer internal control procedures and policies that align with the needs of growing, entrepreneurial companies.

• Supervise and review the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closings on a timely basis.

• Prepare financial statements and other financial reports of integrity.

• Work with the team and a client’s external auditors in order to have an efficient, clean compilation/review/audit of a client’s financial records.

As an associate of the firm, you will:

• Follow the guidelines of the firm in carrying out both external client work and internal firm work.

• Support the maintenance and organization of tools and data used by the firm and its professionals.

• Assist firm professionals on other engagements.

• Actively participate in the further evolution of the firm’s approach and work techniques.

• Perform other job related duties as requested by firm partners.

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field

• 7 years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility and a track record of achievements.

• Working knowledge of GAAP, managerial accounting, along with other accounting and cost control principles.

• Expert user of Excel and highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications

• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks for multiple clients during a given business day, while maintaining focus and attention to detail and properly handling confidential financial information.

• Experienced and confident enough to be able to handle diverse accounting scenarios and take on financial leadership roles, reviewing others’ work at the higher levels.

• Willingness to work with clients both remotely and on-site.

• A hands-on quick study who can not only solve problems on the fly, but essentially can become a strong user of a variety of client ERP systems and reporting software packages.

• Highly personable team player who can effectively interact with a broad spectrum of people, including a client’s employee base, business owners, firm professionals, and other business professionals.

• Strong proactive communication (written and verbal) skills along with an analytical/technical mindset.

• Both self-managing and comfortable working on a team.

• Experience with client-centric work and/or diversity of roles and environments

• At least 3 years supervision experience, given that you may often provide guidance to client accounting departments

Compensation

• Base pay in the range of $79,000 to $104,000 with generous profit sharing

Benefits and Hours

• 15 days Paid Time Off (PTO) and 7 paid holidays

• Health insurance stipend of $600 per month

• Hours are full time, primarily weekdays
• Work both from your home office and at client locations. You’ll work as little as 25% and as much as 75% at client sites. Our clients are generally located throughout northwest Vermont
