About the role

We’re looking for a Software Development Apprentice to join our team of bright professionals. From your first day, you’ll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported and mentored in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification.

You will be joining a technical delivery team with a varied and potentially challenging workload. You may be working on a wide variety of projects of global and national importance, such as HS2 and other major infrastructure, strategic planning, and environmental assessments.

Day-to-day tasks will include using software development techniques to support data management, data manipulation, visualisation, and automation. You will have the opportunity to use 2D and 3D data in applying your software developer skills for use in web and project app development.

You will be put in contact with suitable subject experts, who will help support and guide your learning, giving opportunities to put your developing skills into real-life practice on projects. A mentor will also be provided to ensure a smooth transition into the working environment, and there is a strong network of apprentices, who are all keen to support one another on their learning journey.

Your responsibilities could include:

• Developing new applications which allow project teams to see and work with data in new and innovative ways
• Learning and understanding all the different types of data we work with, and suggesting solutions through the use of software development.
• Working with and supporting other software developers
• Assisting and supporting others in learning and understanding the endless possibilities available in using software development.
• Recording and documenting all processes and maintaining best practice standards and quality assurance.

What we look for

We’re looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:

• A minimum of 3 or more A levels at Grade C or above, or a level 3 apprenticeship or other relevant qualification
• Five or more GCSEs (grade C/4 or above) including English and Maths, or equivalent qualification
• Confident working with IT and Digital Technologies
• Enjoy working with data
• The ability to organise your own work and always be on time
• Good communication skills
• The ability to work as part of a team
• Lots of enthusiasm for this learning and development opportunity

We are keen to meet people with programming and development skills. However, a willingness to learn and enthusiasm for the complex world of Buildings, Infrastructure, Design and Consulting is as important as experience of coding, for which support and training will be provided.
