Why APCO London?

The Europe Finance team is based in London with some local finance admin support in the regional offices, and external tax and statutory reporting advisors in markets. The team supports management decision making and provides financial and management accounting services to all the offices in the Europe region, across 7 countries.

The team is led by the Regional FD for Europe, who is based in London. The Europe Finance team serves as an integral part of the wider global finance team, reporting into the US-based Corporate Finance, with regular contact across regions including North America, MENA, and Asia. APCO Worldwide uses Maconomy for its ERP/accounting system as of July 2020 and is a major user of Microsoft business products including Microsoft Teams

The Role

We are looking for a Junior Management Accountant to join our European Finance Team, which provides and provides commercial support, financial accounting and management accounting services to all of the Europe region’s offices.

This role supports the Finance Manager and the Regional Financial Controller with the management accounting and statutory reporting for various European entities with a focus on overheads and balance sheet reporting.

They will be required to follow all Corporate Policies and Procedures, ensuring each office is meeting required statutory procedures, is in compliance with US SEC regulations and following US GAAP accounting for internal reporting and local GAAP for statutory reporting, and is adequately protecting the assets of APCO.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure that all accounting processes are operating effectively for European entities as required;
• Manage each entities’ balance sheets, ensuring accuracy and that all account balances are understood and reconciled each month, making recommendations for provisions each month
• Manage month-end closes and ensure that deadlines are met, ensuring that the ‘Europe close schedule’ is followed, all month-end Maconomy processes are run and signed off and that a monthly managements file is produced containing all supporting documentation. Produce draft P&L’s & Balance Sheets timely and accurately for review and communication to the local leadership.
• Share appropriate schedules/reports are shared with external accountants;
• Work with the Finance Manager on audits, both internally from corporate and externally from tax agencies;
• Support the Finance Manager with reconciliation of the statutory accounts to the management accounts for various European offices;
• Ensure that Inter-company reconciliations are maintained each month and are accurate;
• Ensure expenses are in accordance with APCO policies and procedures, are appropriately budgeted, adhere to US SEC reporting requirements and have the required back up for US GAAP accounting; Provide regular analysis of overheads vs budget;
• Ensure all relevant overhead and project costs are captured against pre approved POs as well as correct cost centres.
• Coordinate the preparation of all required tax returns for VAT, payroll and other regional taxes with the local accounting team and ensure that all filings are made in a timely fashion
• Other tasks as required and directed

Role Requirements:

• Desired part qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with at least 1-2 years relevant part qualified experience, or qualified by at least 5 years’ experience, of which significant experience must have been in the Professional Services sector
• Degree Educated – 1st or 2nd (or equivalent) from a leading university – and able to demonstrate that they are a: self-starter, energetic, and proactive;
• Knowledge of Maconomy preferred, but not required
• Used to hitting tight reporting deadlines with an eye for accuracy and completeness;
• Effective relationship building and communication skills;
• Systems literate and very good with Excel;
• Comfortable operating in a continuously changing environment
