Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on a scenic waterfront site in Vallejo, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1100 undergraduates and 50 graduate students.

The anticipated monthly salary range for this position is $5500 – $5900 ($66,000-70,800).
The role:
Cal Maritime’s Web and Social Media Specialist is responsible for the design, development, and content of public-facing websites and applications and e-communications to the campus community, industry, alumni, and other stakeholders.
What you will be doing:

- Maintaining and updating the University’s website including designing new web pages, content, graphics, photos, and videos.
- Confirming all content, graphics, photos, videos, etc. align with the branding, mission, and values of Cal Maritime as well as accessibility standards.
- Advise and train campus web publishers regarding best practices for building and maintaining web and mobile content that maximizes goals for the campus website.
- Coordinate and communicate quality assurance s and remediation efforts for content editors, publishers, and campus leadership. Develop clear processes and documentation of ing and remediation efforts as needed.
- Proactively research and communicate web accessibility goals and outcomes as related to the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI). Create presentations for web content editors, publishers, and campus stakeholders on emerging system initiatives as they relate to CSU policy, California state law, and federal laws and guidelines.
- Checking hyperlinks regularly to ensure validity and accessibility.
- Monitor and review use of University-related domain names to confirm the appropriateness of their existence, use, and content.

- Maintaining the University’s presence on various digital media platforms.
- Verifying all web and digital media content is consistent with the design and style of approved graphics standards and ensuring departments are compliant.
- Using digital media to promote university advancement, student achievement, and news.
- Interacting with students and alumni through social media to build brand ambassadors and relationships.
- Monitoring and interacting with other campus organizations’ social media presence.
- Monitoring responses to and the effectiveness of the Cal Maritime digital media content.

- Development and distribution of regular e-newsletters to campus communities and alumni.
- Creation of content (writing/graphic design) for distribution via electronic and print media

- Tracking analytics and noting performance indicators, ing areas that are of interest to the Cal Maritime community.
- Keeping up-to-date with new, rapidly changing technologies and recommending possible improvements to the University’s web and digital presence
- Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of the University’s SEO, digital marketing, and strategic enrollment management efforts.
- Managing access and authorization to Cal Maritime’s content management system.

What we would like to see from you:
- Two years of related professional or technical experience.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills.
- Highly creative, versatile, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
- Ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to publications and the news media.
- Ability to effectively manage media relations and apply effective media strategies and techniques.
- Experience with quality and accessibility checking tools such as Compliance Sheriff, Siteimprove, etc.
- Proficient in use of interactive marketing techniques, such as video sharing, digital media networks, email marketing, and blogs.
- Skilled in relational database design
- Proficient in XML, JavaScript, AJAX, HTML, CSS and SVN.
