Animal Technician/Receptionist Full Time

The Opportunity

The Human Resources Division is presently accepting applications for the Full Time Temporary position of Animal Technician/Receptionist, with the Department of Community Services, Humane Services Division. This position will be effective from June 29, 2026 for an anticipated 2 months duration.

Accountabilities

Receive all incoming calls and enter and retrieve computerized information on complaints and dispatch patrol units by prioritizing calls based on urgency of the incidents.

• Records information regarding animals lost and found, and updates records with other

agencies and persons for the purpose of tracing animals to possible owners.

• Type and file letters, reports ad statistical information as required, including confidential

legal documents.

• Greets individuals arriving at the facility and determines the purpose of their visit.
• Handles licensing and registration of animals.
• Checks incoming strays for signs of injury or disease and applies first aid as necessary.
• Accompanies visitors into the animal holding areas and responds to inquiries regarding

adoption/reclaiming.

• Accepts and discharges animals, collects fees and ensures that all forms and receipts are

accurately processed.

• Assists veterinary personnel as required.
• Feeds and waters animals and administer prescribed medications and diets.
• Cleans and disinfects animal caging, utensils and surrounding areas.
• Ensures environmental control systems are operating at desired capacity, according to

specifications.

• Maintains inventory of routine material and supplies.
• Patrols the City for injured, stray, feral domesticated animals
• Sets live traps to capture evasive strayed, injured or problem animals
• Responds to and investigates animal control complaint calls
• Issues notices to animal owners in violation of regulations via mail and in person.
• Receive all incoming calls and enter and retrieve computerized information on complaints

and dispatch patrol units by prioritizing calls based on urgency of the incidents.

• Transport injured animals for medical care.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. Qualifications

Applicants must have successfully graduated high school supplemented by a certificate from a recognized institution, in Animal Health Technology. Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of three (3) years or more experience in an Animal Care/Control environment and must possess a good working knowledge of animal breeds, diseases and handling procedures. Applicants must be able to work independently; possess good interpersonal skills and demonstrate working knowledge of computer operations and applications, Microsoft Word and general office practices and procedures. Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Must be bondable.
