Job purpose:
Reporting to the Directors, this is a dual role involving full HR and Office Management responsibilities for Amivet. This role will be responsible for performing all HR related duties including recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, policy development, employee relations including grievance and disciplinaries and employment law compliance, with help from outsourced HR/Legal support. The Amivet team consists of 40 employees plus 40 locums across the UK.
The Office Manager component of the role will involve managing all front office activities – including administration, liaising with our outsourced IT support on IT issues, as well as facilities / building management. This role will manage the Finance Administrator, Office Admin Apprentice and Certification Administrator.
Key Responsibilities include:
HR Manager Role
Recruitment and selection of excellent staff and locums – including co-ordination of adverts and candidates, writing job descriptions, preparing interview questions and application forms
Maintaining and effective and smooth onboarding process ensuring new starters are engaged and motivated, as well as the correct documentation completed and uniform distributed.
Manage employee relations issues, including disciplinaries, grievances and absences issues that may arise
Monitor and record sickness/absence
Develop HR policy and procedures to drive performance and mitigate disputes
Maintaining personnel records including who require professional qualifications to undertake their role keep them up to date and current – also ensuring all Official Veterinarians (OVs) have up to date and current VDS insurance and monitoring Continuing Professional Development (CPD) levels for all OVs and CSOs
Assist planning, monitoring and appraisal of employee performance
Oversee payroll and work with appropriate parties on employee benefits
Implement and deliver the learning and development policy
Manage talent and succession planning
Participate in specific projects, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organisation.
Office Manager Role
Ensure the smooth running of the office and that all relevant administration systems are updated and maintained accordingly
Management of the building and facilities, including but not limited to managing repairs and any issues that arise
Manage all online and paper filing systems ensuring data is stored in line with Data Protection legislation
Assists the Directors, Official Veterinarians and Certification Support Officers when required.

Education to degree level or equivalent – a CIPD qualification is advantageous
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a generalist HR Manager / Office Manager role
Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes
Desirable skills
Experience or knowledge of one or more of: food industry, export industry, logistics/haulage industry, veterinary industry
Knowledge of a HR system e.g. Bright HR
