Amey plc Hiring for Junior Project Manager Job at Remote Full Time

We have an opportunity for a Junior Project Manager in our Central Projects and Programmes team, who deliver major IT projects across each of the three Amey business units. This is an ‘entry level’ role in which you will gain broad exposure to IT projects with support from our experienced team.

The team look after 20-50 projects at any time, and you will take ownership of 2 or 3 depending on the size/scale. These could be supporting contract mobilisation or demobilisations through to software development and implementations – essentially, big ticket projects which are fundamental to how our contracts operate.

This role could be an ideal step into a full Project Management role from a graduate or Project coordination position however we are also open to candidates with transferable skill sets, who have managed a business ‘life cycle’/end to end processes. We will offer full support towards a PM qualification.

This is a remote working role, with quarterly team meetings at one of our key hubs. There will be an infrequent requirement to travel to site and overnight stays, for contract mobilisations.

What will this role involve?

• Managing project delivery from beginning to end for small to medium projects
• Delivering progress reports and other project documents needed by Amey Governance and specific project requirements
• Developing and maintaining full project plans and associated documents, ensuring clear accountabilities and timing expectations.
• Identifying and managing any risks associated with project delivery, defining appropriate risk strategy and mitigation for each.
• Engaging and working with sponsors, team members and other stakeholders
• Supporting IT Executive and colleagues in delivery of Group IT and Amey Strategic Objectives
• To take on, from time to time, and with suitable support and training, other project delivery tasks such as project management or testing as determined by business needs
• Ongoing personal development to enhance personal skills and expertise as well as Amey business knowledge, including maintaining an external perspective

What are we looking for?

• Experience in a role which could translate to Project Management; i.e, where you have managed business events and/or process such as a Project co-ordinator, Recruitment Advisor, Bid co-ordinator etc. Alternatively, a Project Management graduate.
• Experience in planning and managing tasks in a corporate business environment and the ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks under supervision.
• Experience of working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
• Ability to deliver projects of 1-6 months duration that involve internal delivery teams, with limited novel technology and solutions
• Ability to engage and manage sponsors, potentially up to director level, and other stakeholders and suppliers under the supervision of a project or programme manager
• Understanding of what ‘good’ looks like from a sponsor and wider business perspectives as appropriate for that project, using Project Management standards and guidance from senior staff members as needed
• Understanding of one or more Amey business areas and how IT system enable delivery, with a perspective and interest in how to effect change
• Basic awareness and interest in one or more areas of IT, such as infrastructure management, software development, or in areas such as business change, user experience and adoption
• Interest in pursuing a Project Management qualification
