Position Summary

As a Manager in the UK Controllership team, you will report to the Director UK Controllership, and you will be responsible for supporting the end-to end governance and oversight of Intercompany Service Fees and Responsibility Centre (cost centre) Governance across all UK legal entities. This is critical to support our local legal entity regulatory and tax filings as the UK is the International hub. The role partners strongly with Corporate Tax, the Intercompany(IC) Centre Of Excellence (COE), Transfer Pricing and other Legal Entity Controllership teams and requires relationships to be built and leveraged across a wide range of American Express teams. The role will also support Global projects where the UK market is required as an SME and key partner to represent International Legal Entity Controllership.

Principal Accountabilities

• Ensuring accurate statutory financial reporting by maintaining legal entity governance and oversight of all material global service fees and intercompany accounting entries impacting the UK legal entities, including processes performed by other teams
• Providing thought leadership on the design, implementation and documentation of new service fees owned by UK market controllership for all UK legal entities
• Coordinating effectively with cross functional teams to ensure appropriate intercompany service fees are established and complete, and any errors identified and resolved accurately and as a timely as possible, with particular focus on local regulatory financial statement cut offs
• Supporting the annual PWC audit testing of intercompany service fees across all UK entities, requiring diligent tracking and support, quick turnaround of items and co-ordinating across groups to provide PWC with information
• Support the annual process to complete the UK Controllership Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) tax regulatory submission, including understanding the SAO scoping, awareness of items which would impact SAO, and driving remediation of any control issues identified
• As an Admin and owner of the Business Process Management web based application, utilised for Responsibility Centre (RC) Validation, activities include designing and co-ordinating the development and maintenance of the application, supporting the roll out of the application across International markets and supporting all users on the application
• Ongoing oversight and governance of the UK Responsibility Centre (RC) structure, which forms the basis of all UK service fee chargeouts. Activities include:
  • The annual UK RC validation process
  • Determining the appropriate legal entity treatment for RCs in partnership with Corporate Tax
  • Developing relationships across multiple AXP teams (business, finance, operational, staff groups etc), building legal entity RC awareness, issue management and drive through changes as required
• Supporting global projects as an International SME on Intercompany accounting and RC Governance, and representing International market controllers in these initiatives
• Providing strategic thought leadership and guidance in support of the ‘Integrated Control Evaluation Template’ programme designed to ensure governance and control over core processes impacting the UK legal entity results

Knowledge & Skills

• Prior experience in Finance/Accounting role
• Ability to provide strategic thought leadership to complex scenarios, determine an appropriate solution and drive it through to implementation
• Results driven / ability to perform multiple tasks, work to strict deadlines and prioritise tasks
• Ability to influence business partners and customers on legal entity accounting requirements
• Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships across multiple teams
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills to resolve issues and track through to conclusion
• Good understanding of American Express business lines and business models in the UK market
• Knowledge of Finance systems as well as an understanding and experience of technology driven initiatives
