Job Description: Senior Engineer – Continuing Education
Reports to: Director of Continuing Education

Summary:

The Senior Engineer collaborates with the Director of Continuing Education in the planning, implementation, andoffering of continuing education programs on structural steel design and construction.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary AISC continuing education representative for the daytime live webinar program andthe secondary representative for Night School.

o Oversee the technical development of webinars and Night School materials, including PowerPointpresentations, handouts, and quizzes.

o Identify appropriate webinar and Night School speakers and reviewers and conduct presentationreviews and speaker training sessions to ensure quality and uniformity of all presentations.

o Moderate live webinar and Night School programs, including the selection of audience questions forthe speaker to answer.

• Manage the recorded webinar program.

o Write quizzes and review quizzes written by others for recorded webinars offered for professionaldevelopment credit.

o Ensure that recorded webinar programs offered for professional development credit meet therequirements for continuing education in all jurisdictions.

• Assist in the development and execution of Virtual Conferences

o Flash Steel Conference – help identify appropriate session topics and speakers, assist with speakertraining, and moderate live sessions.

o NASCC: The Steel Conference – assist in the execution of any virtual or hybrid version of thepremiere steel industry conference.

• Participate as an AISC continuing education representative for in-person seminars.

o Review the technical development of in-person seminars.

o Attend and supervise the implementation of all aspects of each lecture in conjunction with the AISCmeeting planning group.

• Manage the development of the AISC continuing education website

o Oversee setup of online course resources for all assigned programs including recorded webinars,live webinars, and Night School courses.

o Manage documentation for website procedures for continuing education

o Oversee website upgrades and serve as the liaison to the AISC website manager

Other duties and responsibilities:

• Occasional travel for conferences and workshops

• Serve as secretary for AISC technical committees as assigned

• Participate in the activities at NASCC: The Steel Conference as required

• Present lectures as assigned as a representative of AISC

• Participate as a member of the Engineering Journal review board

• Attend AISC department meetings

• Participate in regional and national technical and industrial organizations as a representative ofAISC

• Carry out special projects as assigned by the Director of Continuing Education

Qualification requirements:

• Basic knowledge of steel building design and construction, with in-depth knowledge of area(s) that arerelated to the Engineer’s role at AISC

• Familiarity with AISC and its activities

• Good communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written

• Good organizational capabilities

• Able to manage volunteers and consultants involved in the Engineer’s role at AISC

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite applications

Education and/or experience:

• Minimum 6 years of experience in steel building design and/or construction related work

• Bachelor’s degree in CE, AE or similar with a structural emphasis

Master’s degree and SE and/or PE preferred
