The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation’s tribal colleges and universities (TCUs). AIHEC provides leadership and influences public policy on American Indian and Alaska Native higher education issues through advocacy, research, and programmatic initiatives; promotes and strengthens Indigenous languages, cultures, communities, lands, and tribal nations; and through its unique position, serves member institutions and emerging TCUs. The
Tribal College Journal (TCJ) is AIHEC’s quarterly and online publication, recognized nationally as the premier publication on
American Indian education.

Position Description: The Student Success Data Specialist will join AIHEC’s Research Team to support the organization’s research efforts with the goal of strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) and Indigenous student education outcomes. This position will enhance, and support
AIHEC’s data infrastructure, analytics, visualization, and dissemination processes.

Essential Functions:

• Work with research team to develop, plan and manage the data collection systems, analytics, and reports for AIHEC research projects, business units and TCUs
• Serve as data liaison building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to create and sustain a culture of data use that supports continuous improvement and the adoption of new data processes
• Develop and manage survey tools to support the research team and AIHEC business units
• Support the management of the AIHEC American Indian Measures of Success Key Indicator System data-collection initiative, working closely with members of the Student Success Research Team, TCU staff, and external partners.
• Support in developing, maintaining, and managing databases around TCUs (e.g., a database of TCU courses and degrees offered,) and work with other higher education databases (e.g., IPEDS), including data extraction, validation, and cleaning.
• Support data analysis for Student Success research projects, program evaluation, and/or ad hoc requests from AIHEC business units
• Assist in the creation of data visualizations and reports for AIHEC Board meetings, congress, federal agencies, national organizations, and private-sector funding sources.
• Work with research team to incorporate the use of data in transformational decision-making processes.
• Offer ideas for new data processes based on research and learn up-to-date knowledge of the data science industry and related topics
• Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience and Attributes (minimum requirements):

• Must hold a bachelor’s degree focused on a social science research discipline, Master’s degree highly desired
• Demonstrated competence in conducting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
• Demonstrated analytic skills, with proficiency in relational databases (e.g., Microsoft Access), flat datafiles (e.g., Excel), and other database software programs, including SPSS.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI (or related data analysis and visualization tool) highly desired.
• Proficiency in developing electronic forms and surveys using web-based software (e.g., Microsoft Forms, and SurveyMonkey) highly desired.
• Knowledge of higher education issues, as well as issues regarding research in American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) or other

Indigenous communities and Tribal nations.

• Knowledge of federal higher education research, reporting instruments, and databases is highly desirable.
• Ability to successfully work both independently and collaboratively and participate in consensus building and group facilitation processes.
• Strong oral and written communication skills essential.
• Multitasking capacity with keen attention to detail and clear ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Demonstrated proficiency in using software such as Excel, Teams, Zoom, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
• Human Subjects Certification will be required before research with human subjects may begin.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Native Student Success

Travel: This position requires travel and allows for remote work
