Amazon Technical Academy (ATA) is an end-to-end learning and placement program designed to empower those without a software engineering background to take on technical roles within the company.

Since launching in 2017, ATA has delivered this training through an internal program to transition Amazon employees into software development engineering (SDE) careers, which has proven to be a source for high performing, diverse talent. As a result of our success, the program is poised for significant growth through internal expansion and through partnerships with external education institutions in order to train and hire a high volume of SDE-I candidates from historically excluded populations.

To support this vision, our team is growing! We seek a Learning Experience Designer responsible for the design, creation, and validation of ATA’s core curriculum. In this role, you will

Work with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain learning experiences and materials that align with expected learning and business outcomes.

Apply adult learning principles and systematic instructional design to create learning experiences and content that best fit both the needs of the learner and the delivery method, (e.g., flipped classroom, virtual instructor-led training, and self-directed online learning).

Evaluate curriculum effectiveness, and create and implement program / curriculum improvement plans.

Manage small to large scale content development projects and, as needed, vendors sourced for asset development.

Challenge the team to identify, experiment and implement new and innovative learning approaches, tools, and systems that help us scale.

To succeed in the role, the ideal candidate will need a unique blend of (a) curiosity to continuously question ongoing assumptions about what is most important for learners, (b) willingness to dive deep into technical topics, and (c) flexibly apply adult learning principles.

• Graduate degree in instructional design, adult learning, learning technologies, computer science, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience creating computer science training programs and curriculum for learners from underrepresented backgrounds.
• Demonstrated experience designing and developing learning materials and content, including instructor-led materials, self-directed modules, and multimedia learning assets (video, graphic, audio, simulations).
• Demonstrated experience evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and learning materials.
• A highly effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals to engage team, peers, and management.
• Influences others without direct authority to achieve solutions to meet organization’s objectives, and is proactive in providing solutions, resolving issues and overcoming hurdles to results.
• Experience collaborating with subject matter experts, global stakeholders, and managers.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves, tackle diverse and varied problems, and find innovative, scalable solutions.
