With Amazon Location Service (https://aws.amazon.com/location/), customers can easily add capabilities such as maps, points of interest, geocoding, geofences, and tracking to applications. They retain control of their location data, so that they can combine proprietary data with data from the service without their private information ever leaving their AWS account. Amazon Location provides cost-effective location-based services using high-quality data from global, trusted providers Esri and HERE. With Amazon Location’s affordable data, tracking and geofencing capabilities, and built-in metrics for health monitoring, customers can bring sophisticated location-enabled applications to production quickly, without the high cost of custom development.
We are looking for a software development manager to guide the development and operation of Amazon Location. Amazon Location is a new geospatial service launched at re: Invent 2020. It’s an opportunity for you to personally change the way customers approach software in the cloud. You’ll bring a tremendous amount of customer obsession and bias for action to bear as you solve customer problems. You’ll seek ways to solve customer problems with designs that are deployed on a fully native AWS and serverless platform. You’ll obsess over the availability and performance of your service and proactively mitigate any threats. You will create an environment where engineers’ creativity can thrive and their careers can grow.

On-Call responsibility
You will be part of an escalation manager on-call rotation, typically for one day a week and 1 weekend every two months. Your team members, Sr. SDEs and managers will support you in your onboarding to operating a service at AWS, and will genuinely be happy to jump in and help.

A day in the life
Start your day, grab a coffee (or tea), say hi to your team, participate in the daily standup, participate in a design review meeting, have a one-on-one with one of your engineers, work on your team’s roadmap, guide the operational review meeting to monitor the health of the service.
