Summary of the role:

Data is certainly one of the most valuable assets in the world. An in-depth understanding of how an airport is running can give the edge when making strategic and operational decisions. Collecting relevant and good quality data and turning it into usable business intelligence is key for decision-makers. However, harnessing the tremendous amount of data generated by our applications and the applications our customers uses to exploit them efficiently is an incredibly complex challenge.

We are in charge of developing and launching Airport Insight, the new platform part of the Amadeus Airport IT solutions that leverage the latest cloud and big/fast data technologies to collect, centralize, correlate and generate comprehensive, near real-time and dynamic reports to make the most out of these data. We leverage Azure managed services to provide a cloud-native streaming data platform that interfaces with Microsoft Power BI to offer actionable insights after transforming the data coming from all across the Amadeus and the airports’ ecosystems.
This platform will also be the foundation for the usage of Artificial Intelligence within Airport IT solutions.

In terms of organization and way of working, the team is working in Scrum, following the Agile principles. Following our transformation to SAFe back in June, our team is now part of the Galaxy Express 999 Release Train within the Airports and Airline Operation organization. This allows us to give more visibility on the delivery, transparency and alignment with all the stakeholders and dependent teams and better manage our priorities at the Business Domain level.

We are looking for a passionate, highly skilled Software Development Engineer with strong knowledge in Scala and Microsoft Power BI to join the Airport Insight development team – Suntory – in our London Heathrow office.

You will use your strong knowledge and skills in software development to fuel the technical vision and future design of the Airport Insight product and provide your support to the other developers in the team to implement these. You will work with the other team members to ensure delivery of high quality of customer requirements, and with the application architects, Big/Fast Data Train and Amadeus Security Office in order to build and deliver all the way to Production the various elements of Airport Insight.

Our Airport Insight team is composed of Business Analysts, Software Development Engineers and Quality Engineers.
As a Software Development Engineer, you will be accountable for the technical design, development and delivery of the product functionalities based on the solutions agreed with stakeholders, keeping in mind and at heart at each step that the quality and stability of the application is the priority as our customer expects Amadeus to provide the best-in-class applications and services.

In this role you’ll participate to:

• Solution design
  • Analyse needs and requirements, from customer and internal sources, and propose functional/technical solution recommendations with supporting rationale
  • Writes and/or contributes to feasibility studies/analysis documents that have a key impact on the organisation.
  • Takes responsibility across the full project life cycle.
  • Coordinate those interactions from the building phase to delivery to ensure the compliance of the delivered functionality.
  • Carry out the functional walk-through of the product with the Development team and Product Management
  • Contribute with QA teams to product quality by giving inputs for the test strategy

• Technical Function
  • Acts as a technical authority of the Airport Insight application, working in partnership with clients and internal Amadeus Stakeholders – TPE, Data Train, Security Office, Cloud architects.
  • Propose, enforce and implement processes and development techniques to drive the team towards technical excellence.
  • Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and/or coordinating work, which may extend beyond own area of expertise.
  • Presents highly complex ideas, prepares a case to overcome objections and influences others to their way of thinking.
  • Identifies technical risks and takes responsibility for mitigating and managing them.
  • Delivers, including personally producing, comprehensive and high-quality operational software and documentation necessary for the application.

About the ideal candidate:

• Skilful in application development methods and techniques and in-depth knowledge of relevant technologies and functional areas.
• Initiator of technical and functional solutions.
• Knowledge of the functionalities and interactions between applications part of the Airport Passenger Processing Services solution
• Knowledge in Azure managed services and Microsoft Power BI.
• Cloud computing and streaming data platform paradigms and technologies
• Experience in the Airport IT industry is a plus
• Python and Scala languages
