About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Group Coordinator to join our team in Doncaster. The Group Coordinator will lead on the delivery of 5 groups for people with dementia and their carers/supporters. The Group Coordinator will also coordinate the delivery of Dementia Friends Awareness with partners. The groups are varied and should reflect the needs of the people we support with guest speakers, appropriate activities and opportunities for people to socialize and get support from their peers. 

This service is part of a wider partnership of organisations known as, ‘Keep in Mind’ led by Age UK Doncaster providing support for people with dementia and their carers/supporters in Doncaster. The Group Coordinator will be responsible for raising awareness of Alzheimer’s Society Groups both with the other partnership members and in the local community.

About you

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic, committed, organised, resilient, empathetic and supportive and ready to actively promote group services across all communities and encourage all people affected by dementia to feel included and able to access our services.

You will have:

• An understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers/supporters
• An understanding of the value of group activities to people living with dementia
• An understanding of working with volunteers
• An understanding of planning and delivery of group activities
• Ability to use IT

This role is varied and requires someone who is happy to work in a group environment and provide leadership in the delivery of a safe service for people affected by dementia with the support of a team of volunteers. The role needs someone who can think on their feet and is responsive to the people attending the service, changing activities when needed and dealing with the unexpected.

Although experience is desirable Alzheimer’s Society do have comprehensive training, mentoring and support for the right candidate who can demonstrate their understanding of the requirements of the role in their application.
