Within the UK & Ireland we are the leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider, including helping deliver the underground section of London’s Crossrail, the large Bristol Area Signalling Renewals and Enhancement project and the Leeds Station Capacity Upgrade program.

Moreover having been selected as part of a joint venture to design, build, and maintain the next generation of very high speed trains for HS2, we have also been shortlisted for the corresponding signalling contract, which will see the construction of systems to control trains up the length of the route from London to Birmingham. The contract includes the design, manufacture, supply, installation and inspection of the signalling systems as well as maintenance until handover.

This opportunity will be based in our Digital Signalling and Infrastructure business, where our current activity is underpinned by the winning of framework contracts for 2 of Network Rail’s 5 regions, with a potential value of £750 million for projects across the Southern and Eastern regions.

Over a 2-year program, our Apprenticeships combine University studies with real life work based experience across our organisation. You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards the Level 3 Assistant Account Apprenticeship. We also offer opportunities to extend apprenticeship learning through to Degree and Chartered status if the candidate is suitable and the business need exists.

We have 2 opportunities which can be based at either our York or Hatfield offices.

Purpose of the Job

Support the project controllers with the preparation of work package financial reports and assist the projects and reporting departments with Month End tasks, accounts review and reconciliations, audit file preparations and reporting activities.

• Support project controllers with the preparation of work package financial reports
• Regular Kronos reports
• GRIR report to support AFP for cost reimbursable contracts
• Maintain invoice register / follow up cash payments with Commercial
• Raising of invoices in GSI
• Preparation of month end accruals
• Intercompany recharges
• Reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts
• Reporting activities during Month End

• Using accountancy tools and data – including analysing financial data and using payroll, purchasing and sales systems
• Financial accounting and reporting – including accounts preparation, double-entry bookkeeping, project reports and final accounts
• Management accounting – including income and expenditure, planning and controlling of cost centres/projects
• Communications – including interpersonal, written and verbal skills for internal and external stakeholders

Personal Specification

Qualifications

you must have (or be predicted to have):

• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade 5-9.
• This should include Math’s, English and a Science/ICT subject

Required Skills & Abilities

• An interest in Finance & Accounting
• Good IT skills
• The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
