The Opportunity:
The Sr. Accountant assists with leading the strategic development and ongoing operations of Month-end close, Internal and External Financial Reporting (GAAP and Statutory), Financial and Statutory Audits, and Budget Monitoring.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist in the daily operations of the accounting department to ensure completeness and accuracy with:
o Month-end and Year-end financial close processes
o General ledger accounting in accordance with GAAP
o Account reconciliation assignments
o JE postings, including managing timing
o Production and distribution of internal financial statements
· Prepare and maintain payroll journal entries and reconciliations
· Maintain Investments workbook
· Standardization of fiscal files and records to document transactions
· Performs core accounting duties supporting a 10 day close.
· Leads the preparation of external financial and operating reports, including Quarterly and Annual regulatory (HI DOI, HI DHS MED-QUEST, and NAIC) reports.
· Assists with conversion of GAAP to SAP TB
· Assists with the coordination and completion of annual financial and regulatory audits.
· Assists with recording and monitoring of investments
· Supports development of the enterprise annual operating administrative expense and capital expenditure budgets
· Performs monthly cost center budget vs actual analysis and follows-up with cost center managers regarding material discrepancies
· Assists with administrative spend management by providing cost center managers with supporting documents and scrutinizing new spend trends
· Create process improvements and policies as needed.
· Assists with responding to regulatory inquiries.
· Lead with preparation of supporting schedules for tax Form 990.
· Prepare other reports and perform other duties, as assigned.
· Perform special projects as assigned.
· Responsible to maintain AlohaCare’s confidential information in accordance with AlohaCare policies, and state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding confidentiality. Employees have access to AlohaCare data based on the data classification assigned to this job title.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Accounting, Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related field.
· 2-4 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with monitoring and analyzing accounting data, maintenance of general ledger, and production of financial statements
· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
· Excellent computer skills and able to learn new systems efficiently
· Advanced skills using Microsoft Programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
· Demonstrated strong skills in providing solutions and/or troubleshooting complex accounting issues.
· Achieves results, builds trust, communicates effectively; customer and quality focused.
· Ability to multi-task, organize, adapt to changing priorities, manage a diversity of high priority projects in a fast-paced environment.
· Requires operation of general office equipment to include; PC, fax/copy machine and ACD Mitel Phones.
Preferred Requirements
· CPA or MBA preferred
· Proven experience with Access and Microsoft Dynamics GP.
· Experience in not-for-profit, managed care organization, hospital, medical office, or equivalent
· Experience with NAIC Statutory accounting and reporting
Mental, Physical and Environmental Demands:
· Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
