On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a Mechanical Structural Engineer on a 12-Month contract based within the Clients site in Warrington.

Role Overview

The Ultimate Diesel Generator (UDG) project within our clients Civil Nuclear requires a Mechanical/Structural Engineer. The role will be to design access platforms for mechanical equipment as well structural supports for pipework and cabling.

Responsibilities

• Undertake design calculations in accordance with Eurocode 3, inclusive of evaluating earthquake loads
• Generate, evaluate and select the most appropriate design based on cost whilst ensuring that they’re appropriate for use and complaint with any space constraints, customer and UK regulatory specifications
• Work with the Computer Aided Design (CAD) team to produce equipment fabrication drawings
• Produce equipment specifications
• Present designs at internal Technical Reviews
• the Mechanical Structural Engineer will work with fabricators to realise the designs.

Experience

• Experienced with using and understanding the requirements of codes like Eurocode 3 and BS EN 1090
• Knowledge of the design code RCC-M for structural supports to piping is preferable but not essential
• Experience of designing access platforms for Mechanical Equipment and/or fairly complex steelwork for pipe supports. Ideally with experience of delivering fabricated equipment to site
• Able to plan their work effectively
• Sufficient knowledge of standard steelwork components e.g. materials, profiles, strength, joint designs etc. and how they should be used to maintain compliance to the design codes above
• Practical knowledge of the installation of steelwork components at site
• Good working knowledge of tolerances
• Ideally experienced with the application of CE (and/or UKCA) marking equipment to ensure that the proposed design is fully compliant
• as a Mechanical Structural Engineer you must be able to work closely and communicate effectively with project team members
