We are seeking enthusiastic, professional, and qualified Multi-Day Trip Leaders/Guides to lead 7-11 day trips, in group sizes of 8-15 on average, from the Coast to Denali! This dynamic role entails highlighting the natural history, practicing backcountry safety, organizing logistics, and demonstrating excellent in-field hospitality, all while working as a team with other staff members and guides. Pay is $175.50 per day, with free food & housing.
AVAILABILITY: May 10 – September 10 (tentative depending on the level of training)
FOOD & HOUSING: Staff are provided a dry cabin styled Yukon tent, free food and Chef-prepared dinners served daily. If your role permits travel, all expenses and accommodations are paid.
LOCATION: Kenai Riverside Lodge, Kenai Backcountry Lodge, Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge (all located on the Kenai Peninsula)
JOB OBJECTIVE: Provide a safe, engaging experience while leading our guest’s backcountry activities such as canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and natural history education. Must possess the ability to create a welcoming, memorable experience in a group setting, mitigate risk, collaborate with co-guides, support general operations, and practice proper backcountry safety.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and problem solve under time constraints
Ability to live and work in a communal, camp-like atmosphere
Affinity for natural history and interest in expanding knowledge of eco-tourism, Alaska, and the Alaska tourism experience
Mental and physical stamina to work long (10-12) hour days of travel and physical activity
Alaska experience, multi-day outdoor leadership, and interpretation or teaching background strongly preferred, previous guiding experience required
Willing to lead and/or co-guide a variety of activities
Must have valid driver’s license and ability to complete driver training
Independently able to lift heavy and awkward items like luggage, coolers or boxes weighing 50 lbs. or more
Ability to work well with complex logistics
Ability to work independently and remotely
Strong interpersonal communication skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Memorize all itineraries, their schedules, and logistics
Willing to lead a variety of itineraries and activities
Upon meeting your group, competently orient guests to Alaska and their itinerary
Be the point person for your guests to help them best communicate their wants and needs throughout the trip
Collaborate well will local guide staff to provide quality guest experiences to a variety of physical ability levels
Be a team player at AWA lodges (e.g. buss dinner dishes, help with luggage, etc.)
Continuously expand your knowledge of Alaska and sub-arctic related natural history
Participate in company practices and policies to conserve natural resources, reduce landfill-bound waste, reduce or eliminate the use of environmentally harmful substances and products and work to help improve AWA’s environmental impact.

Camp chores as assigned to allow for values of integration, coordination, cross-training, employee benefits of sharing drudgery tasks, synergy, and maximum employment opportunity. You will be expected to do “dirty work” from time to time.
