Looking for a paid Summer/Fall co-op for 6 months between May/June and Nov/Dec 2024! Housing stipend included! Position will remain part-time at 40 hours per week (no overtime) for a maximum of 6 months.

POSITION PURPOSE The position will work as a member of the Technical Section Engineering team at Ajinomoto Health and Nutrition, Inc. production plant in Eddyville, Iowa. Work is project oriented and will include design & implementation of engineered plans for the production process. Strong problem solving and root-cause analysis required. Good understanding of chemical and mechanical processes including mass balance and heat transfer.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE In junior or senior year of a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree at start of job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be a self-starter, have good organizational skills and like working in a team environment as well as ability to leverage scientific knowledge and theory to practical applications.
• Excellent oral, written and computer communication skills.
• Ability to design and plan new methods for coproduction and purification processing.
• High degree of scientific creativity and technical proficiency, including analytical chemistry.
• Ability to transfer business knowledge to practical applications working on projects by yourself.

WORKING CONDITIONS Fast paced bio-chemical/chemical/dry blending manufacturing environment working both in office & plant settings. This position may perform activities in an environment containing hazardous elements and requiring safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members. All safety procedures, procedures described in SOPs, JHAs, and support of the ISO standards in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting or standing, repetitive use of hands and arms, and eye/hand coordination for 6+ hours a day.

Walking required, usually < 1-2 hours a day.

Lifting, up to 50 lbs., on occasion.

Occasional bending, reaching overhead, crouching, balancing, pushing, or pulling.

Occasional travel may be required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with process team, engineers, and control staff to ensure the process plant is operating at maximum output levels; optimizing production by analyzing processes and compiling de-bottleneck studies that ensure stable operation
• Design both plant process and equipment to be readily adapted to suit the product range and the process technologies involved; taking safety, environmental, and economic aspects into account.
• Assessing multiple options for plant improvements, including design, budget, schedule, and economic return.
• Project Management including Installing and commissioning new production and /or equipment, monitoring developments and troubleshooting; applying new technologies; ensuring that potential safety issues related to the project operator, the environment, the process, and the product are considered at all stages.
• Maintain integrity and reputation through compliance with state, federal and AJICO guidelines and regulations
