Syndicate 1183 underwrites a number of classes of business including war and terrorism, energy, marine, financial lines, cyber, transport, political risk, crisis management, kidnap & ransom, contingency, property and treaty reinsurance. Talbot has offices in London, Asia Pacific, and the United States.

About the role

What you need to know:

• The Credit Risk Analyst will support a team of 8 underwriters located in London, Singapore and New York
• The role is to provide counterparty credit analysis of corporates and financial institutions, and to assist underwriters in the risk selection process, along with performing country analysis. Transactions under assessment are in the areas of Trade Credit, Structured Commodity Finance, Corporate Lending, Sovereign Risk, Project/ Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, and Traded Products
• The Credit Risk Analyst will be responsible for evaluating credit risk on structured and non-structured transactions in key industry sectors such as mining, oil & gas, metals, chemicals, telecoms, manufacturing, transport, infrastructure, agriculture covering a global portfolio in both developed and emerging markets, where the insureds may include banks, corporates, commodity traders and multi-lateral agencies.
• Perform due diligence on transactions, including:
• Produce in-depth credit analysis on corporates and financial institutions; across different sectors and regions and assess non-payment risks by private and public obligors
• Analyse financial statements, management accounts and cash flow statements in differing accounting standards
• Evaluate bank credit memo’s, and stress testing assumptions around structured credit transactions
• Formulate independent opinions, and recommendations around the credit worthiness of corporates, financial institutions, and sovereign entities
• Challenge the underwriting team on credit rationale, and maintaining a high-quality portfolio of credit risk
• Manage the in force portfolio: recommend credit limits, review and monitor existing credit exposures and provide input to the political risk Watch List
• Work to resolve credit workouts, and restructurings with the underwriting team, claims and internal legal.

What we’re looking for:

• Experience in insurance, banking/ financial institution, or credit rating agency within a credit analysis capacity
• Excellent analytical skills with ability to interpret data and rapidly identify key issues and provide solutions
• Highly developed technical skills and experience in a range of financing areas including trade-related Term Loans, Pre-Export Financings / Prepayments, Reserve-Base / Borrowing Base Facilities, Project, Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, unsecured or secured over assets, contracts, and receivables
• Understanding of technical issues in industry and sovereign sectors and their impact on risk profile
• Working knowledge of bonds and derivatives, including interest rate, cross-currency and credit-default swaps and commodity hedging
• Highly developed technical skills and experience in a range of financing areas including trade-related Term Loans, Pre-Export Financings / Prepayments, Reserve-Base / Borrowing Base Facilities, Project, Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, possibly unsecured, or secured over assets, contracts and receivables
• Experience of internal-based ratings approach and able to perform internal credit rating of corporates.
• Strong academic background, with university degree ideally in Engineering/ Mathematics/ Finance/ Business or any related subject; and/or
• Recognised financial qualification, such as the CFA, ACCA, or CIMA would be extremely beneficial.
• Excellent analytical skills with ability to interpret data and rapidly identify key issues and provide solutions
• Understanding of technical issues in industry and sovereign sectors and their impact on risk profile
• Proficient user of Bloomberg, Moody’s and Excel
