About the Role

We currently have a 12 month fixed term opportunity for a Business Customer Accountant to join our finance team.

The primary purpose of role is to provide accurate financial information and insights to stakeholders around the financial result of the Business Customer Electricity and Gas portfolios at gross margin level. The Business Customer Accountant will be responsible for calculating and recording financial transactions for each reporting period with primary focus on the unbilled energy accrual balances.

What you’ll be doing:

• Calculating the Business Customer Electricity and Gas gross margin result including revenue, unbilled revenue and network costs, energy costs and other cost of sales accruals in line with AGL policies and Australian Accounting Standards
• Proactively identifying opportunities to optimise financial result of business operations through financial analysis
• Working on projects including but not limited to customer level gross margin and volume reconciliation
• Maintaining financial control of relevant balance sheet accounts through balance sheet reconciliations
• Preparing monthly BAS statements and Australian Bureau of Statistics reports
• Supporting the external audit process of the responsible areas
• Preparing detailed commentary on the Income Statement and Balance Sheet gross margin monthly result to the respective FP&A Business Partners
• Identifying improvement opportunities to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the existing processes
• Actively participating in all relevant Health Safety and Environment programs and other AGL initiatives
  

About You

What you’ll bring to the table:

• Previous experience in Finance in a large company or professional services firm
• CA / CPA / ACCA or equivalent Qualification
• Expert knowledge of financial systems including SAP, microsoft Excel and relational database systems (SQL knowledge is advantageous)
• Growth mindset with focus on improving processes and procedures around reporting
• Dedication to meeting and exceeding the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
• Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively in both written and oral form
• Experience of working collaboratively with others and building and maintaining strong team relationships
• Understanding of the Australian Utilities market is advantageous
