Job Description

Position Title: Head Start Teacher / Site Supervisor

Supervisor: Head Start Staff Support Specialist

Qualifications:

• A baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education, or
• A baccalaureate or advanced degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool age children.

· Position Summary: Under the direction of the Head Start Education Coordinator, the Teacher/Site Supervisor will oversee and direct the planning, organizing, and implementation of education services for Preschool aged children, in addition to managing a site staff that consists of a Teacher Aide, Classroom Aide, Family Worker, Bus Driver/Classroom Aide, and a Food Service Worker.

Technology: The employee must possess basic computer skills and have some working knowledge of database management and data entry. Will attend training as necessary.

Childcare Responsibilities:

· Plan and facilitate activities for enrolled children, including daily activities, field trips, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom.

• Use home visits and parent conferences to discuss the child’s individual development and progress, assist the parents in developing observational skills and solicit parent observations.
• Eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices.
• Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including daily observations in each domain, anecdotals, and examples of the child’s work.
• Complete and submit required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans, time sheets, meal s etc.
• Create lesson plans, schedules, environments, and portfolio assessments to assure their accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and NY State Daycare Regulations.
• Coordinate the transition of children to Kindergarten.

Site Responsibilities:

• Participate in grantee and delegate component professional development training; Implement Creative Curriculum for Preschool in the classroom.
• Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the Head Start Performance Standards, and thorough knowledge and application of Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
• Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
• Coordinate with the Special Services Coordinator for identification of developmental or disability needs based on classroom observation, parental concerns, or developmental screening results. Assist in implementing children’s I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) or I.F.S.P. (Individual Family Service Plan) seeking clarification for any aspects that are not understood.
• Ensure the daily and monthly checklists are completed, documented, and submitted in the monthly paperwork to management.
• Identify and prioritize materials and equipment needed in classrooms and playgrounds, and coordinate with director in making purchases.
• Ensure opportunity for parent involvement as per Head Start Program Performance Standards.
• Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher professional development plan.
• Assure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained.

Staff Responsibilities:

• Works with Teacher Aide, Classroom Aide, and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
• Cooperate with other staff, management team, community partners, and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require individualization to meet the needs of the children.
• Coordinate with management on site staff annual performance appraisals.
• Supervision and recruitment of classroom volunteers.

Compensation: Rate of Pay: $20.43 for a bachelors degree. This is a full-time position that works 40 hours per week and follows the Ticonderoga Central School District calendar, so there is a summer layoff period of 7-8 weeks.
