Job Role and Purpose

The Finance Manager reports directly into the Chief Executive and is responsible for the day-to-day running and management of the Company’s finance function.

We are a small team of 14 staff with a turnover of circa £1million across three main income steams – membership, consultancy and events. This role is absolutely critical to ensuing we have an attention to detail and constant focus on maximising our surplus. The role is very busy and “hands on” covering sales invoicing, purchase, banking, cashflow, audit preparation and contract management.

Main tasks

Production to trial balance of the monthly management accounts including responsibility for the bookkeeping and running month end processes, journals and deferred income, ensuring appropriate controls are in place.

Weekly cash flow forecasting.

Management of sales invoicing

Management of sales and purchase ledger

Assists National Consultancy Managers with contract management.

Monthly Salary preparation ready for processing by external payroll company.

Continually track the company’s financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement.

Provide information to enable speedy business decision making to ensure enhanced business profitability.

Support annual budget setting, completing year-end account and VAT submissions.

Preparation, onsite management and participation in the annual audit process conducted by external auditors.

Supervise debt chasing in a timely manner

Complete accurate bank reconciliations

Prepare financial returns for external funders when required.

Support with the creation of business plans for the optimisation of the financial performance

Proactively seek to maintain and improve all financial controls, ensuring regular reviews of finance policies and procedures are undertaken, updated and communicated.
