Our client owns 3 freshwater marinas located in East Tennessee and North Georgia. With over 700 slips, they are searching for a Director of Marina Operations to join their team.
The Director of Marina Operations will preferably be based in North Georgia with responsibility for all marinas. The marinas offer slip rentals, boat rentals, dry storage and more services for the members.
The candidate must possess strong interpersonal skill sets in order to properly lead and communicate to team members, peer group, prospects, vendors, members and company leadership.
An ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience of the creation and implementation of processes and operating budgets.
Other important attributes include strong computer, planning, and organizational skills, market and territory knowledge, marina industry experience, and a positive attitude.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of management experience, a bachelor’s degree, and freshwater marina experience. A CMM or CMO certification is a plus.
It is expected that the Director of Marina Operations workload will increase during the boating season and decrease over the winter.
Specific Job Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
Facilities and Operations
Establish an operating plan and submit for approval an associated budget that ensures each location remains in compliance with established policies and procedures, maintains proper staff level, and consistently meets or exceeds approved objectives and budgets.
Fully utilize standard operating procedures to ensure consistent and familiar service across locations. Given the uniqueness of each location, it may be required to create local procedures to overcome operational challenges and nuances.
Properly implement and execute the Red-Carpet treatment to our members, specific member greeting and salutation procedures, safe boarding and disembarking, parking plans, hours of operation, flow of operation, fueling, repair, maintenance, mitigation of unsafe boating areas,and other similar operational issues.
Proactively work with each location supervisor and other team members to ensure goals are met
Ensure team members properly maintain, clean and perform safety checks on the rental equipment
Maintain and secure an adequate level of replacement parts and supplies. Assist withdistribution, minimize loss and ensure reimbursement from members when possible
Become proficient at using our various systems, including dockside transaction processing, reservations, fleet management, inventory management and more
Assist with keeping policy manuals current
Collaborate with our sales and marketing teams to maximize our membership sales efforts through operational excellence
Provide exceptional service to members
Produce various operational metrics for presentation in company performance management meetings
Human Resources
Hire a team of employees and provide the proper training to ensure a safe, happy, and effective work environment
Be responsible for the professional growth and development of your direct s.
Ensure the individual location supervisors and their staff are properly trained and have the adequate staffing levels and skill sets for the specific locations needs
Ensure compliance to staffing plans and budgets, seek approval for adjustments to agreed-upon plans and budgets when necessary
Ensure that all new policies and procedures created for an individual location are introduced to the team and added to the staff manual
Assist in the development and implementation of a performance-based compensation plan for supervisors and staff to reward team members for goals met.
Actively participate in the measurement of results and take actions necessary to reward success or to make improvements, as necessary
Ensure all marina staff are properly trained to provide information to prospects when they are on-site.
Handle personnel issues quickly and effectively, with the support of our HR partner Adams Keegan.
Lead by example
Fleet and Maintenance
Maintain an impeccable fleet : fully functioning, clean, and in ship-shapecondition
Work with our centralized fleet team to ensure all product needs are met. Constantly evaluate boat model mix to maximize member preferences and area applicability
Establish, with the help of our Fleet Manager, a maintenance schedule for each vessel that balances fleet quality with boat availability
Work with our fleet team to coordinate new and retired vessel movements with local dock managers and staff
Growth and Networking
Build and develop relationships with other marina managers and harbor masters.Promote positive working relationships with local marine industry professionals.
Become familiar with the local markets, waterways and popular boating destinations
Actively engage in the analysis and recommendation of new service offerings, and other growth opportunities
