JOB SUMMARY

The AVP of Finance is knowledgeable in all areas of generally accepted accounting principles and is responsible for managing and improving the day to day processes of the finance department. This person will provide knowledge and expertise in full-cycle general ledger accounting and ensure the adequacy of accounting practices and policies related to handling funds, managing internal controls, government and regulatory reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The AVP of Finance will be responsible for administration and management of accounting policies, processes and services along with continued development of the finance department and accounting for the subsidiary and credit union service organizations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the overall functions of the Finance department including daily operational duties, accounts payable, reconciliations, asset portfolios, assisting with financial and regulatory reporting.
• Responsible for the implementation of processes and procedures to maintain the financial integrity of the credit union and subsidiaries according to generally accepted accounting principles and NCUA/TCUD guidelines.
• Responsible for the preparation of the monthly financial reports and board reports.
• Oversee the preparation of the Quarterly 5300 Call Report.
• Oversee completion of required quarterly VISA Operating Certificate.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements and budget as needed.
• Assist in the daily cash flow management to assure the required liquidity levels are maintained to meet member needs.
• Assist in the coordination and preparation of annual tax returns: 945, 990(T), and 990.
• Serves on the Executive Rate Committee and Technology Business Owners Committee
• Assist in identifying investment opportunities which are sound, profitable and balanced and balance between maturities and repricing opportunities of the Credit Union’s assets and liabilities.
• Assist in preparation of specialized or general analysis such as liquidity position, cash flow, investment performance and similar investment/cash related activities.
• Assist with quarterly ALM report preparation as contracted with approved third party provider(s) and monthly/quarterly ALM report preparation utilizing internal reports, tools, programs or other methods.
• Develop each employee to their highest potential by identifying their areas for improvement and appropriately coaching and training staff.
• Monitors and stays current on legislation (federal and state laws), industry trends and technologies.
• Manage direct report through planning, directing and organizing departmental duties. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Credit Union’s policies and applicable laws. Motivating and influencing others is a material part of the job. Obtaining cooperation is an important aspect and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of the position. Recruit, develop, train, cross-train, direct, coach, counsel, review performance, compose evaluations, and motivate staff. Make hiring and termination recommendations. Maintain acceptable turnover. Ensure staff has appropriate resources to complete job functions with effectiveness and efficiency. Ensure staffing remains appropriate for business needs and service level achievement.
• Assist with other duties in the Finance department as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

• Accredited Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university with concentration in accounting.
• In-depth knowledge and experience of GAAP.
• CPA certification.
• Minimum five years of related experience preferably in credit union environment or other financial institution.
• Prior experience in an accounting management role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience managing direct reports including responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing performance of staff.
• Five to seven years accounting experience preferably working at a financial institution.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
