Our client is on the lookout for qualified and passionate individuals, including Counsellors, Registered Psychologists, Social Workers, and Human Services professionals, to join a dynamic telephone-based helpline team.

Embark on a fulfilling journey supporting the Australian Defence Force, working collaboratively within the Defence Family Helpline team. This role is not just a job; it’s an opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of Defence Members and their families.

In this role, you will be a vital source of support for Defence members and their families, addressing a broad spectrum of issues. Located in Deakin, Canberra, this office-based position presents a challenging yet rewarding environment, dealing with complex cases and providing urgent assistance.

With over a decade of exclusive partnership with the Defence Member Family Services branch of the ADF, abrs has effectively placed a considerable number of contractors in various roles nationwide. A significant portion of these individuals has gone on to secure permanent positions with the ADF after successfully completing their initial 12-month contracts. This opportunity serves as a genuine and valuable stepping stone for those aspiring to pursue long-term contracting and permanency within our nation’s esteemed Defence Force.

The role:

• Provide telephone counselling and referral assistance to callers who will require your crisis intervention and risk assessment skills.
• Carry out a range of assessments via telephone and skype
• Create detailed written s
• Undertake various projects relating to a variety of Defence members
• Refer callers to other services which would be best suited
• Work efficiently within a team of professionals, including debriefing and sharing knowledge in order to best support callers

You:

• Degree qualified in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Human Services/Social Sciences, Allied health professionals or degree qualified Nurses with experience and/or further qualifications within Mental Health.
• Proven crisis intervention and risk assessment skills
• Possess excellent communication skills and extensive experience writing detailed s.
• MUST be an Australian Citizen
• A passionate and motivated attitude to work
• Located in the ACT or willing to re-locate
• Willing to work over a 24/7 roster, including afternoon and weekend shifts

Desirable

• 2 plus years of experience working with complex clients who have difficulties with Mental Health, Domestic Violence, Grief, AOD, Loss or Homelessness.

Additional Information

• A number of probity checks are required including holding a current working with children and undertaking a National police check.
