Accounting and Investment Analyst

LOCATION: Baltimore, Maryland

REPORTS TO: CFO and Director of Impact Investing

DURATION: Full time

GENERAL:

This is a unique position in support of the accounting and investment operations of the largest private foundation serving Baltimore City. The ideal candidate is a bright, flexible self-starter who is eager to learn about philanthropy, impact investing, real estate, business law and tax compliance and how they intersect in this unique non-profit organization. It is an excellent opportunity for candidates with two to four years of work experience that value broad learning experiences, a collaborative work environment and a front line view of the growing field of impact investing working with a national leader in the field.

The Analyst will report to and work approximately 60% of the time with the CFO and Director of Impact Investing. The CFO is responsible for the Foundation’s diverse portfolio of program-related investments, loans, guarantees, and equity investments in start-up and early-stage technology companies, many of which require market and company research, reviews of legal documents and investment analysis. The position will also work on projects for the Director of Accounting and Information Systems (25%-30% ) including accounting and operations oversight for the Foundation’s real estate investments, preparation of the Federal Tax Form 990PF, calculation and filing of estimated tax payments and completion of other tax and local returns required of the Foundation. The Analyst will also assist the Senior Vice President (10%) who manages two major investments in green technologies. The Analyst is expected to be results-oriented with an ability to work independently and as part of team in a small, fast-paced, professional and collegial office environment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Analyst will be responsible for:

• Manage the direct investment database to ensure that funding requests are addressed in a timely basis and review funding requests to assess the appropriate level of follow-up.
• Research and analysis related to the Foundation’s investments, litigation and other business as necessary
• Prepare the direct investment summary, investment recommendation memos and recurring investment analysis for bi-monthly board meetings.
• File management, both electronic and paper, and documentation control.
• Manage or assist with Foundation special projects as needed, including system conversions.
• Represent the foundation at meetings and events of the innovation and small business ecosystems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• College degree required with accounting coursework; Accounting major and/or CPA preferred
• 2-4 years of work experience in a fast-paced accounting, business, or investment environment preferred
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Blackbaud, Sage IntAcct)
• Strong organizational, research and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills managing investment documents, company updates, tenant expense settlements etc.
• Proven ability to work independently, multi-task and meet internal and external deadlines
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to exercise independent judgment or desire to develop decision-making skills
• Attention to detail and ability to see the big picture
• Ability to work with multiple partners and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines
• High level of discretion, ability to handle confidential information
• Diplomacy and tact working with numerous internal and external parties.
• Positive and professional personality as a Foundation representative in the Baltimore innovation ecosystem.

Salary of $60,000 – $80,000 commensurate with experience. Attractive benefit package including family health, dental and vision care, 10% retirement plan contributions, paid parking, paid vacation and sick days.

The Foundation currently requires full-time staff to work in the office 5 days per week, unless attending business meetings outside the office. Paid parking in our Inner Harbor location is included in the Foundation’s attractive benefit package.
