POSITION SUMMARY:

The Service Engineer is a hybrid-role, technical expert on ABEC products and maintains/fosters strong knowledge of the biopharmaceutical clinical and commercial manufacturing industry. This position combines aspects of Applications, Project Engineering, and Project Management, focusing these roles into daily activities and responsibilities that develop solutions to support clients throughout the life cycle of ABEC’s product offerings.

In the Applications role, the Service Engineer acts as the primary interface between the ABEC Global Sales Organization and ABEC’s Service, Engineering, Design, Automation, Product Development and Operations Organizations for ABEC Service Products.

In the Project Engineer/Project Manager role, the Service Engineer applies their technical expertise to develop, design, specify, oversee, test, and on project-based inspections of, and/or modifications to, biopharmaceutical process and process support equipment to successfully achieve project safety, budget and schedule goals.

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Converse with Customers (internal and external to ABEC) to establish project requirements and define potential solutions.
• Provide subject matter expert support to Regional Sales Managers and assist with the development of product strategies for identified opportunities.
• Work internally and externally with vendors to develop scope documentation as well as cost and lead time estimates for project proposals.
• Develop and execute laboratory/field tests as well as equipment/vessel inspections to measure and on equipment condition and process performance.
• Provide internal and external user training to support new product launch initiatives as well as existing product usage/maintenance.
• Participate in personal and peer continuous education regarding industry standards and technical service knowledge.
• Inform and escalate to relevant management regarding product service issues as observed through interaction with clients.
• Communicate with vendors and perform form/fit/function analysis to resolve critical component obsolescence.
• Lead and coordinate multi-location, cross-functional teams throughout the entire project lifecycle, including through the resolution of any post-installation/testing issues discovered.
• Closely monitor and maintain project schedule and costs, executing plan-do-check-act to correct any encountered deviations.
• Act as key project stakeholder interface, ing internally and externally regarding weekly and monthly expenditures, schedule progress, and safety/quality issues encountered.
• Support company designers on engineering-related deliverables while meeting customer expectations for equipment requirements related to form/fit/function.
• Support the creation and approval of key Engineering and Design documentation (i.e. piping/instrument drawings, assembly drawings, detailed design drawings, bills of material, etc.).
• Perform calculations required for equipment verification and component/system sizing.
• Prepare detailed specifications and equipment data sheets.
• Support design verification activities and participate in Design-driven Model reviews.
• Review and Approve related Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s) and ensure their accuracy and completeness prior to their publication and release throughout the organization (i.e. purchasing, quality, manufacturing, etc.).
• Support Automation and Electrical Engineering Resources on related deliverables driven by customer expectations related to equipment communications and / or functionality.
• Work with company Automation resources to review customer requirements and generate / approve related automation documentation including, but not limited to, Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS) and Detailed Design Specifications (DDS).
• Support Manufacturing and Quality based resources in their work to fabricate, assemble and qualify engineering/design deliverables in support of customer driven requirements.
• Function as company contact on technical items related to assigned projects under fabrication and quality verification.
• Supervision and/or conduct FAT and/or SAT activities both domestically and internationally.
• Generate required test plans and work with customers to seek approval in advance of execution.
• Support the development of engineering standards, procedures & procedures for review by departmental management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS in a relevant Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or hybrid sub-discipline) or related technical discipline.
• 2-5 years of post-graduate engineering, technical and/or project management experience in related industry (process or manufacturing).
• Ability to travel upwards of 20% per year (domestic and international).
• Note: Inspection Services may require entry into confined spaces and work from ladders and/or lifts at height.
• Functional understanding and operation of basic Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Additional/Desired:

• 3-5 years post graduate Engineering experience working in a BioPharm or Piping systems market and / or direct experience supporting the manufacture and testing of custom equipment, machinery and components driven by customer specifications.
• 2 years’ experience in support of automation and control systems engineering related to bioprocesses.
• Familiarization with ASME BPE Guidelines.
• CAD experience (Solidworks or equivalent).
• Functional understanding and operation of any additional Microsoft Office products. Examples include Visio, Project and Access.
