The Opportunity

Abbott Diagnostics Business currently has an opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer, who will contribute to the development and maintenance of Maintenance and Diagnostic procedures for diagnostic test analyzers.

The Software Engineer is an engineering professional who, with minimal to no supervision, applies engineering knowledge to develop software code, unit tests and integration tests for a component of a feature.

You will support and implement IronPython scripts. Procedure development will rely heavily on a comprehensive knowledge of theory and design.

You will use both software simulation and working on real hardware in a laboratory setting during your development activities.

You will have the ability to support stakeholders world-wide.

This position can be based in our Abbott Park (Lake County), IL or Irving, TX office.

The ideal candidate is someone who has a passion for development and working on complex system software; takes pride in building top-quality software;

and is driven to achieve operational excellence.

What Youll Do :

• Software development responsibilities include executing software development life cycle activities from software requirements, design and implementation through design verification.
• Develop, test and integrate software using current software technologies.
• Develops unit test fixtures and unit tests following defined design pattern.
• Prepares code reviews for code changes.
• Participates in peer reviews for code changes by other peers.
• Develops, builds, tests, debugs and merges code for medium complexity / risk tasks
• Performs functional developer testing of the code produced.
• Participates in feature definition, architecture and design discussions and provides input.
• Capable of understanding impact of proposed change on broader component design
• Perform fault isolation and conducts root cause investigations for basic to moderate complexity issues.
• Able to plan and execute their own activities for assigned tasks.
• Follows defined software development lifecycle procedures and Abbott’s quality system procedures.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders on decisions that impact their team.

Education & Experience Youll Bring :

Required

Bachelor’s Degree with 2-4 years of related experience, Associate’s Degree with 6+ years of related experience or Master’s Degree

Preferred

• Excellent knowledge of programming concepts using IronPython scripting language
• Familiar with Microsoft .NET technology framework and object-oriented programming concepts
• Knowledge of the Agile software development lifecycle
• Strong, effective troubleshooting skills
• Ability to manage priorities effectively to drive multiple projects forward in parallel as necessary
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

The base pay for this position is $56,700.00 $113,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
