If you are increasing frustrated with not being able to support the individual needs of the children that you teach, this would be the ideal opportunity for you as you will have a the ability to directly impact the children that we look after and reengage them into education through utilising non typical ways of teaching. Of course there is some 1:1 classroom work, but this role is more than that.
You will provide professional education services to two of our residential children’s homes in the South Lanark area. You will work under the leadership and direction of the Education Manager but this is a stand-alone role from an education perspective and you will have ownership for our education offering in line with our home schooling model. Through the work that you do, the homes will achieve the best possible educational outcomes for each young person.
You will establish high quality education services that are child centred and develop a culture of excellence and equality.
The role aims to deliver against the services education vision and strategy, managing resources appropriately. Working collaboratively with other staff and under the direction of the Education Manager, you will be responsible for evaluating the overall performance of our education offering and positive outcomes for the children in our care drawing on their experience and understanding of education for looked after young people and working collaboratively with other staff to deliver education programmes.
You will explore opportunities for collaborative working with staff across the organisation that will provide long-lasting and meaningful benefits to young people.
You’ll manage the delivery of educational assessment and functional skills of 3-4 children. Although our registration supports ages 8-18, predominantly most of our children are aged between 14 and 16 years old and you will work with them on an individual 1:1 basis. This will include developing individual plans for children alongside the Education Manager. You will work with the team around each child to ensure that the provision of educational assessment and differentiated educational programs are achieved for children in placement during their time with us.
As well as delivering direct 1:1 sessions, you will plan educational content, outdoor education visits and practical activities that are supported by the residential care team around each child, making best use of the skills and experiences of the team, specifically those relating to outdoor activities.
We are looking for candidates with experience of teaching KS2 and KS3, if you have KS4 all the better. You will have experience of behaviour management and promoting positive behaviour. A practical knowledge of SEND would also be beneficial.
