A Safe Haven Foundation Hiring for ADULT EDUCATOR (Reading/Language Arts) Job at Chicago, IL Full Time

Reports To: Director of Education

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

This position is funded by grant under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II program in which we must comply with both state and federal mandates which govern the program. Funding is performance based; therefore, the instructor must follow state standards and approved curriculum for the program, as well as meeting the criteria as a proficient instructor.

The Adult Educator (AE) will be responsible for designing and implementing lesson plans, evaluations, and remediation for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach general education courses and soft skills, which includes communication, self-management, digital and financial literacy to adults so they may learn the knowledge and skills needed to obtain an industry-recognized certification or employment to sustain a family.

• Develop, modify, and evaluate curriculum to ensure that it meets the needs of students, aligns with WIOA, the Illinois ABE/ASE Content Standards as well as the College and Career Readiness Standards.

• Create Reading/Language Arts focused lesson plans that are based on the Illinois ABE/ASE Content Standards as well as the College and Career Readiness Standards.

• Teach multi-level and Bridge/ IET (Integrated Education & Training) classes in Reading/Language Arts using evidence-based practices or strategies.

• Contextualized instruction for the Bridge/ IET courses.

• Differentiate curriculum, assessments, and/or instruction to meet individual student needs.

• Extensively evaluate a student’s progress using both standardized and formative assessments.

• Create and implement students’ remediation plans.

• Administer career readiness assessments.

• Complete the ICCB’s College and Career Readiness Standards Proficient Training for Adult Educators and earn certificate within 6-months of hire date

• Attend scheduled program meetings and training workshops

• Each fiscal year, earn at least 12 hours of Professional Development units approved by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB).

• Demonstrate working knowledge of World of Work, the career path framework.

• Collaborate with internal and external career navigators, other AEs, workforce partners as well as with occupational skill trainers (e.g., Security and Culinary Instructors)

• Assess, counsel and in collaboration with ASH’s Career Navigator, refer students directly to post-secondary, vocational, and/or career opportunities as well as supportive services as needed.

• Work with team members to integrate basic and employability skills, career exploration, and/or technical skills in ABE/ASE instruction using innovative or evidence-based approaches

• In collaboration with the Director of Education, Manager, and Career Navigator, provide educational counseling to students which may include setting goals, resolving conflicts, and overcoming barriers and crises to help retain students.

• Advise students, with the support from the Director of Education or Manager, on their progress and recommend steps to solve any issues that may impede them from completing their program or refer them to the appropriate staff member or external agency.

• Conduct/participate in weekly student intakes, interviews, orientations, and enrollment tasks as needed.

• Maintain ongoing communication with program instructors, program director, supervisor, and case manager to help ensure student achievement.

• Ensure all student records, reports, notes, and plans are accurately updated in a timely manner.

• Submit program, student progress, and assessment reports as scheduled by program director.

Computer Skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university and three years’ experience teaching adults.

• Master’s degree in Education or Related Field preferred.

Certificates/Licenses

Teacher’s Certification or Meet the Proficient Instructor’s Criteria preferably.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.00 – $27.00 per hour
