Summary

This position is funded by grant under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II program in which we must comply with both state and federal mandates which govern the program. Funding is performance based; therefore, the instructor must follow state standards and approved curriculum for the program, as well as meeting the criteria as a proficient instructor. The Adult Educator (AE) will be responsible for designing and implementing lesson plans, evaluations and remediation for participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, modify, and evaluate curriculum to ensure that it meets the needs of students, aligns with WIOA, the Illinois ABE/ASE Content Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards.

• The AE will serve in the position for which a teacher or other professional has responsibility in designing and implementing educational – lessons, evaluations, remediation plans, activities and services for participants.

• Create math and science-focused lesson plans that are based on the Illinois ABE/ASE Content Standards as well as the College and Career Readiness Standards.

• Teach multi-level and Bridge/Integrated Education & training (IET) classes in math and science using evidence-based practices or strategies.

• Contextualized instruction for the Bridge/IET courses.

• Refer students directly to post-secondary, vocational, and career opportunities as well as supportive services.

• Provide some classroom instruction in Life Skills and Work Readiness content.

• Provide a level of educational and career counseling services.

• Differentiate curriculum, assessments, and/or instruction to meet the needs of the student.

• Regularly evaluate students’ progress by utilizing standardized assessment tools.

• Create and implement students’ remediation plans.

• Administer career readiness assessments.

• Attend scheduled program meetings and training workshops.

• Each fiscal year, earn at least 12 hours of Professional Development units approved by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB).

• Demonstrate working knowledge of the World of Work, the career path framework.

• Collaborate with internal/external career navigators, workforce partners, and occupational skill trainers (e.g., Welding or Culinary Instructors).

• Assess, counsel and in collaboration with ASH’s Career Navigator, refer students directly to post-secondary, vocational, and/or career opportunities as well as supportive services as needed.

• Work with team members to integrate basic and employability skills, career exploration, and/or technical skills in ABE/ASE instruction using innovative or evidence-based approaches.

• In collaboration with the Director of Education, Manager, and Career Navigator, provide educational counseling to students which may include setting goals, resolving conflicts, and overcoming barriers and crises to help retain students.

• Advise students on their progress, with the support from the Director of Education or Manager, and recommend steps to solve any issues that may impede them from completing their program or refer them to the appropriate staff member or external agency.

• Conduct/participate in weekly student intakes, interviews, orientations, and enrollment tasks as needed.

• Maintain ongoing communication with program instructors, program director, supervisor, and case manager to help ensure student achievement.

• Ensure all student records, reports, notes, and plans are accurately updated in a timely manner.

• Submit program, student progress, and assessment reports as scheduled by program director.

Pay: $24.00 – $27.00 per hour
