Reports To (Position Title): Manager – Advanced Modeling & Analytics

Summary Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Modeling & Analytics, the Data Modeler is responsible for the design, development and deployment of modeling and reporting capabilities utilizing Microsoft Azure Analysis Services, Azure Databricks and Microsoft Power BI software platforms. The role is part of our Enterprise Data Platform team that manages the ingestion, storage, modeling and consumption of data for Acosta and our clients.

Essential Functions:

Development of new Azure Analysis Services (AAS) Tabular models, as well as enhancements to existing AAS models.

Creation of views in Azure Databricks to support AAS Tabular modeling requirements.

In addition to model development, there will also be occasions where new Power BI reports, as well as enhancements to existing Power BI reports will require development.

Work closely with Project Managers / Scrum Masters, BI Architects, BI QA Analysts and Data Engineering Developers in both Agile and Waterfall work settings to deliver solutions against a deadline that meet the requirements of the business and product stakeholders.

Stay current with Microsoft and other BI technologies by researching, POC’ing and sharing solutions within the Data Platform team that will help drive efficiency and innovation for our business and product stakeholders.

Continually focus on self development by allocating time to continually develop your BI, modeling and data skills.

Automation and scheduling/triggering of data refreshes for the AAS models.

Familiarize yourself with Acosta’s services (namely Retail, Headquarter Selling) – along with the data solutions (NARS, POS, CPG Syndicated) that support those services.

As a critical thinker, you can think analytically about modeling data and BI, identifying patterns and extracting actionable insights and information from the data made available to you.

Adherence to the Acosta Data Platform report development, documentation, deployment best practices and standards.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Degree:

Bachelor’s Required

Experience Requirement:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology or 5+ years experience working in BI

3-6 years of experience in Microsoft SSAS, AAS and data warehouse design for Business Intelligence

5+ years of experience with data analytics and various report development software

2+ years of experience in Power BI including M Query and DAX development

Familiarity in working with ETL tools such as Azure Databricks

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

Proficient in Power BI, inclusive of an advanced understanding of DAX (calculate/evaluate/filter expressions, parameters, variables, iterators, advanced time intelligence and calculated groups).

An advanced understanding of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) foundations and best practices as it relates to optimizing data and reporting.

Proficient in AAS (or SSAS) tabular models, inclusive of loading data, relationships and modeling, security, processing and partitioning.

Basic proficiency in Azure Databricks including navigation within workspaces, querying notebooks, usage of gateways and DSNs.

Good problem solving and debugging skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.
