Summary:
20/20 Seed Labs Inc is a full service agricultural lab located in Nisku, Alberta. Our busy testing lab conducts seed quality testing in the areas of physiology, microbiology, molecular biology and seed morphology. We currently have 2 training positions open for an exciting opportunity to pursue a career in agricultural science.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Lab Manager the primary role of the Purity and Germination Trainee will be to perform germination and purity analysis on all crop types, including cereals, pulses, grasses, legumes, vegetables and specialty crops. This involves implementing the Canadian, American and ISTA Seed Testing protocols to assess seedling essential structures, identifying and diagnosing field issues through seedling analysis and identifying contaminated seed species.
Supported Training:
This is a fully supported training role. The successful applicants will be placed under a documented training program to learn the principles of germination and purity training. After successful completion of the internal training program, trainees will become fully Accredited Seed Analysts through CFIA. This is a fully subsidized training program. Wage will increase substantially as successful candidates gain accreditations.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct purity testing to retrieve, identify, classify and report on contaminating species and other foreign material
· Analyze germination tests through assessment of essential structures at seedling growth stage
· Adhere to prescribed quality standards and protocols
· Data entry, reporting and other general lab duties are required
Skills and Education:
The successful candidate(s) will demonstrate:
· Self-starter attitude with the ability to learn and apply new technical skills while on the job
· Attention to detail and ability to follow specific directives
· Ability to work under time sensitive deadlines with excellent time-management skills
· Aptitude and interest in botany and seed science
· Knowledge of agricultural systems such as pedigreed seed system, seed grading and basic agronomic processes
· Willingness to continually learn and thrive in an interesting and dynamic field
· Education such as plant science or biology courses at a postsecondary level would be considered an asset
