The position of Accounting – Royalties Specialist will have direct involvement with timely and accurate processing of the company’s royalty reporting and related payment processes. This position will handle a multitude of day to day tasks related to royalties, collaborate with internal partners, and ensure timelines are met with accuracy in the complex end to end royalty payment process.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and a quick learner. Will also have excellent critical thinking skills and a strong attention to detail with the ability to work in multiple systems and handle complex processes and a routine and daily basis. Candidate must have high regard for customer satisfaction (external and internal) and demonstrate strong delivery skills under pressure and with strict deadlines. Candidate must possess advanced Excel skills (i.e. pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, conditional formatting, advanced filters), have experience working with large data files, and be comfortable with formatting large amounts of data to produce required results/reports. Database knowledge is highly desired.

Due to COVID-19, this role is currently a work from home opportunity with an expectation that the position could transition to on-site in the Bloomington, Indiana office when normal business operations resume. Work from home requires reliable and stable fiber, DSL or cable internet service.

This is an hourly, non-exempt role. The core schedule for this position is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for start and end times. Additional hours and/or overtime may be required depending on the needs of the business.

In this role, the successful employee will:

• Coordinate and issue quarterly royalty payments to authors ensuring all contractual obligations are met.
• Perform data entry tasks related to coordination of royalty information.
• Research and resolve issues related to dated outstanding royalty checks including voiding and re-issue.
• Ensure timely completeness and accuracy of a high volume of royalty reporting activity.
• Provide timely & researched communication to internal and external contacts related to royalties.
• Compile information for regulatory reports related to escheatment of stale royalty payments.
• Maintain 1099 software and ingest W-9 and W-8BEN information (track and account for tax withholding).
• Maintain secure ACH software.
• Understanding of finance related concepts (i.e. A/P, A/R, accruals, journal entries).
• Work with other departments that interface with royalty department.
• Be reliable and committed to having all assigned responsibilities completed accurately and on time.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
• Minimum 3 years of practical general accounting experience either in a corporate financial accounting role or in public accounting required
• Exceptional research, analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Advanced Excel skills and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Outlook
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong sense of urgency with all work-related tasks
• Self-motivated and organized with the ability to multi-task
