The Starfish Canada is looking for dynamic educators to help us deliver our summer camps! Join our passionate group of science communicators and environmental educators in organizing and delivering high-impact programming to hundreds of youth across Vancouver. We are looking for individuals who have the passion and commitment to inspire youth to make a positive impact on the environment, and are excited about spending a summer outdoors!

3 Role Types Available: Site Supervisor, Assistant Camp Supervisor, Environmental Educator

Type: age 30 & under / summer

Organization: The Starfish Canada

Location: In-person at two site locations in Vancouver BC

Hours: Full-time/Seasonal 40 hours per week,

Compensation

• $25/per hour (Site Supervisor/Environmental Educator)
• $23/per hour (Assistant Camp Supervisor/Environmental Educator)
• $22/per hour (Environmental Educators)

Term

• Site Supervisor: June 29th 2026 – August 28th 2026
• Assistant Camp Supervisor & Environmental Educators: July 2nd 2026 – August 21st 2026

Hours of work: 40 hours per week (8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday)

Location: In-person at two outdoor sites in Vancouver, Sites: Kitsilano Beach & John Hendry Park (Trout Lake).

• Summer Camps are fully outdoor programs delivered at Kitsilano Beach and John Hendry Park (Trout Lake Park). Camp staff will rotate between both outdoor locations throughout the summer term. Please note that there is no access to indoor facilities, applicants must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Vacation: 4% Vacation Pay

Requirements

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) wage subsidy program. To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) at the start of employment
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Additional Requirements

• A clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check completed within the last five years, or the ability to obtain one
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification completed within the last three years
• A valid BC Driver’s License (required only for SIte Sueprvisors positions)
• Access to a reliable vehicle (preferred for Site Supervisor positions)

About The Roles

• Site Supervisor/Environmental Educator Role:

The Site Supervisor’s role is to manage The Starfish Canada’s outdoor summer camps and camp staff (up to 4-5 staff members and 4 volunteers at a given time). The Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that day-to-day activities and operations at camps run smoothly, and that all campers, staff members and volunteers are practicing safety at camps. This involves program preparation, collecting and managing registration information and data, collecting waivers, communicating with parents, and coordinating volunteers. In addition, the Site Supervisor is responsible for the smooth delivery of the program and the safety of all campers onsite. As the Site Supervisor, you are expected to fill a leadership role to participants and volunteers, providing assistance and guidance as needed.

This position is a great fit for an experienced supervisor and educator who is a strong leader, highly organized and detail oriented. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic educator who wants a job where they can engage with children outdoors while gaining further experience in education management.

• Asssitant Camp Supervisor/Environmental Educator Role:

The Assistant Camp Supervisor/Environmental Educator is responsible for delivering engaging and educational summer camp programs that teach students about ocean conservation and environmental stewardship, while supporting the Site Supervisor in managing staff and volunteers. In this role, you will facilitate camp activities, support the camp team, and assist the Site Supervisor with program preparation and camp operations. You will work closely with staff and volunteers to ensure that all activities run smoothly, safely, and effectively. As part of the summer camp team, you are expected to provide leadership, guidance, and support to both campers and volunteers.

• Environmental Educator Role:

The Environmental Educator’s primary responsibility is to deliver engaging and educational summer camp programs that teach students (ages 6-10) about ocean conservation and environmental stewardship. In this position, you will work as part of a team to facilitate The Starfish Canada’s summer camps, ensuring that all activities run smoothly and safely. In addition, the summer camp staff is responsible for the delivery of the program and the safety of all campers onsite. As the summer camp staff, you are expected to fill a leadership role to participants and volunteers, providing assistance and guidance as needed.

• We offer multiple learning and development programs, including a debate-style session on the intersectionality of environmentalism, discussing climate change from Western-based science and traditional knowledge perspectives, and a speaker’s bureau where environmental changemakers under the age of 25 discuss their innovations and solutions. We currently collaborate with Six Nations of the Grand River to co-design new environmental workshops for their communities and schools in the Hamilton and Toronto area.
• Through our Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25 program, these participants receive an award, care packages from environmentally minded businesses, speaking engagement opportunities, media coverage and mentorship by our network of experts. Top 25 award winners leave our program feeling inspired and connected to a community of national changemakers.
• We convene 75 youth annually at our Youth Environmental Changemakers Summit. Located in the beautiful west coast rainforest of Squamish, BC, we build a national community of climate champions while providing them space to connect with nature. We provide space to members of the Squamish Nation to deliver about half of the Summit’s content, allowing youth to engage with Indigenous approaches to climate action.
