JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Plans the annual educational programming calendar for the Museum of York County.
Develops and oversees programs that may include, but are not limited to: summer camps, summer and weekend programming, scout programs, birthday parties, after-school, home school, and SC standards-based school programming.
Applies best practices to program development, delivery and evaluation and strives to discover and apply new strategies and techniques to keep programming fresh and exciting, includes participation in professional conferences and development.
Develops and delivers interpretative and educational programming.
Oversees and facilitates school programs.
Assists with content development for marketing efforts for educational programs.
Observes, coaches, and evaluates programs, staff, and volunteers on a regular basis.
As appropriate, participates in exhibit planning and evaluation to ensure exhibits align with the site mission and meets the needs of audiences.
Recruits volunteers, paid performers, and contracted services for events and oversees responsibilities for the event.
Manages and assists in the development of budgets for educational programs.
Trains interpretive staff and volunteers.
Works cooperatively with other CHM departments.
OTHER DUTIES:
Facilitates community partnerships to further the mission of the museum and to share resources with other professional non-formal and formal educators and interpreters in the county, state, region and nation.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of Bachelor’s degree. Requires three years of experience in a related field. Prior experience working in an educational setting with families and children is preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Valid state driver’s license is preferred. Certified Interpretative Guide (CIG) certification required or must be obtained within six months of employment. Teaching certification is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write, spell, edit, and comprehend reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, visitors, and the general public. Computer skills and fluency or communication skills in Spanish a plus. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Ability to understand budgeting, and compile annual reports a plus. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to use common sense, manners and courtesy when dealing with others inside and outside the organization. Ability to act in a professional manner whenever a crisis arises.

ADMINISTRATOR: Work is directly related to assisting with running or servicing of the business or department.
Perform professional level work requiring a wide range of administrative, technical, scientific, engineering, accounting, legal, or managerial methods applied to complex problems; Example: May plan or direct the sequence of department or division activities.
Direct, manage, or lead others; may determine work procedures, assign duties, maintain harmonious relations, or promote efficiency; may develop and administer operational programs; or may write or present extremely complex papers and reports.
Communicate information among co-workers, customers, vendors, and management; or speak before professional groups; may write complex articles and reports or develop presentations for specialized audiences; may read scientific or technical journals or reports.
Perform coordinating work involving guidelines and rules with constant problem-solving; May be responsible for actions of others requiring development of procedures and constant decisions affecting subordinate workers, clients, or others in the general public.
FINANCIAL AUTHORITY
Manage or administer budget within assigned department Handle cash transactions; prepare and process purchase orders. Bill or reconcile records, including departmental budget records and other related information such as subcontracts.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE
Use office machines such as copiers or calculators. Use computers for data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or custom applications; use projectors, sound equipment, telephone with additional features, planetarium equipment, and promethean board.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires work involving: gripping or feeling with hands, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling under 1/3 of the time; standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; and lifting up to 50 pounds under 1/3 of the time.
VISION REQUIREMENTS:
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point), Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:
The job may risk exposure to indoor environment, outdoor environment, and noise.
