Development Engineer
DMG MORI Advanced Solutions Inc. of Hoffman Estates, Illinois is in search of an experienced Development Engineer based out of its headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
The Development Engineer is responsible for the following duties : Research, design, develop, and test equipment for AM (additive manufacturing) (45%) : Research : Quantitatively studying the underlying mechanisms and process of laser powder bed fusion using a variety of experimental and analytical methods.
i.e. ANOVA, Designs of Experiments, etc.); Design : Based on fundamental engineering principles, process understanding, and experience create 3D models, PLC code, Software algorithms necessary for running and improving AM equipment;
and Test Equipment : Develop strategies, fixtures, devices specifically for quantifying performance of complex AM technology and subsystems.
Design and develop unique approaches for powder conveyance, optical calibration, laser control, and gas flow (critical sub-systems necessary for the robust operation of AM machining).
Leveraging research design, develop, and testing skills to facilitate optimization of powder conveyance (new methods), optical calibration (new methods / measurement techniques), laser control (software algorithms), and gas flow (software and electrical design).
20%) Conduct time estimates for components to understand impact of product innovations in order to improve the process and minimize cycle time.
Analyze CAD data, create custom toolpaths, analyze machine cycle time and then compare to results after product innovations.
10%) Calculate optimal machine parameters for part processing. Determine AM operational conditions to successfully create metallic components using understanding of welding metallurgy, multi-objective optimization, and machine operation.
10%) Maintain understanding statistical process control and machine reliability analysis. (5%) Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy.
5%) Generate engineering s and technical documentation. (5%)
The Development Engineer is based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and will travel 25% of the time to DMG MORI facilities in Davis, California (20%) and Japan (5%) on an as-needed basis.
Requires at least a Master’s degree or its foreign equivalent degree in Materials or Industrial Engineering, plus 24 months of work experience in Materials Engineering and coursework or experience in Metallurgy, Additive Manufacturing, and Materials Engineering.
