Functional area: Project Development

The Development Officer will be responsible for supporting the development of RWE’s Renewable Energy projects in Australia, covering wind, solar, storage, hydrogen (or a hybrid combination thereof) ensuring that projects progress to final investment decision. The Development Officer will also be involved in supporting the business to inform its development strategy, and support other areas of the business as required including construction and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting the development team in day to day activities as required by the lead Development Managers.
• Compiling site information including constraints, topography, cadastral data
• Manage and undertake desktop and site scouting activities to identify new potential renewable energy projects and present opportunities to the team in a concise manner.
• Support and ensure transfer of information between development and technical teams and manage timeframes
• Liaise with and manage external consultants to ensure efficient information exchange to obtain relevant studies throughout development process
• Support the development team in discussions with all relevant stakeholders including land holders, government authorities, local communities and other stakeholders
• Manage and participate in community open days for renewable energy projects, ensuring successful engagement with the community
• Conduct regular site visits to consult with stakeholders, assisting in on-site studies, inspect monitoring equipment, and escort contractors, as required
• Develop and contribute to presentations summarizing project status for different audiences internal and external
• Prepare, update and manage timelines demonstrating project progress for internal and external audiences
• Prepare, update and manage databases, risk and project management tools.
• Develop and maintain project budgets in order to ensure projects are delivered on budget Build your knowledge up of the development process to continue to add value to the development team

Required

Experience and Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in the renewables energy sector
• A willingness to work within the business’s OHS policies
• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, town and regional planning, environmental planning (desirable)
• Collaborative and supportive team member with Development experience in the renewable energy sector
• Strong capability in use of IT including GIS software (preferably QGIS) to support all development activities
• Willingness to learn new IT applications to support the development of projects
• Ability to write coherent structured documents and s designed to address a specific topic and audience
• Ability to work proactively both autonomously and within a team
• Ability to operate at a detailed level, to organize and multi-task, with a dedication to seeing projects through to completion.
• Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
• Driver’s license
• Acting comfortably in cross-cultural teams, collaborating across country boundaries with a sense for diversity and inclusion;
• An interest in, and general understanding of, the National Electricity Market and HV grid structure and operation.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
