Young Invincibles Hiring for Navigator and Outreach Coordinator at Washington, DC Full Time

Young Invincibles (“YI”) is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization, with 45+ employees and an annual budget of $7.0mm, working to expand economic opportunity for young people ages 18 to 34 and to amplify their voices in the national political conversation and policy arena. Founded by and for young adults in the summer of 2009 during the debate over health care reform, YI has quickly grown into a leading voice for young people on the issues of health care, higher education, employment and civic engagement. The organization has achieved major successes in areas ranging from the regulation of college health plans to Pell grants, and has successfully engaged hundreds of thousands of young adults online through a network of over 100 partner organizations. Our regional offices (California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas) have increased grant aid for low-income college students, expanded funding for community colleges, and ensured undocumented students can access in-state tuition.

Position Description:

Young Invincibles seeks a Navigator and Outreach Coordinator to join our team for a full-time temporary position through September 2024. Working with other YI staff and key partners, the Navigator will conduct extensive outreach to community organizations, college campuses, and other young adult-serving organizations to educate young adults (18-34 years) about health insurance, COVID-19 prevention and vaccination efforts, and connect the uninsured to critical resources. The Navigator will also be a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) to conduct direct enrollment assistance to sign consumers up for Medicaid and ACA marketplace insurance through marketplace.virginia.gov in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The position will be based on our national team and focus on Northern Virginia, specifically Woodbridge and Manassas. The ideal candidate has comfort working with diverse populations, is an excellent communicator, and has experience in Medicaid, ACA enrollment, organizing, or facilitation.

This is a full-time position through September 2024 with the opportunity for extension.

Also must be comfortable with virtual, in-person, and hybrid workplaces. Full COVID-19 vaccination is required. All YI employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You’re considered fully vaccinated two weeks after you get a second dose of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine or two weeks after you get a single dose of the Janssen/ Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Hourly Rate: $26.45

Key Competencies + Duties:

• The Navigator will also be a Certified Application Counselor (CAC) to conduct direct enrollment assistance to sign consumers up for Medicaid and ACA marketplace insurance through marketplace.virginia.gov in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Directly enrolling consumers into health insurance through one on one appointments
• Manage scheduled appointments through tools like the YI Get Covered Connector
• Organizing community events including meetings, trainings, educational workshops, and tabling
• Conducting in-person outreach and building partnerships to reach uninsured young people
• Presenting and facilitating trainings and workshops including but not limited to YI’s Health insurance literacy (HIL) trainings, COVID vaccine education, and mental health trainings
• Communicating and synthesizing complex material into a comprehensible format
• Elevating young adult voices through story collection, consumer education, and training
• Administrative duties such as tracking and importing organizing appointment data, completing debrief s, and follow-up surveys with consumers
• Contribute to consumer education team by providing content, messaging, and stories from field organizing work
• Maintain ing and data requirements required by the state of Virginia Navigator program
• When necessary, provide training in ACA policy, Medicaid, and outreach best practices to fellows as part of the Virginia program or other YI staff
• Engage with the YI National Policy team to inform policy advocacy

Qualifications:

• Ability to work effectively independently and with a team.
• Must have own transportation/access to a reliable vehicle to travel around northern Virginia and in DC.
• Ability to navigate an online application and basic understanding of ACA marketplace enrollment.
• Bilingual; ability to communicate effectively in English and a second language, preferably Spanish.
• Creative, energetic, and possessing a great attitude,
• Professional and mature in all settings.
• Experience and comfort working with diverse communities.
• Excellent communications skills.
• A passion for Young Invincibles’ mission.

The following are a plus but not requirements:

• 1 – 2 years of experience with outreach and facilitation.
• Experience with facilitating presentations, group discussions, and trainings.
• Experience working in a direct service environment.
• Experience working in northern Virginia communities.
• Experience working with underserved and young adult populations.
• Preferred experience working with immigrant communities.
