NATURE OF WORK

This position provides clerical, fiscal, and customer relations work of varying degrees and complexity. Work also involves responsibility for performing clerical work requiring the application of basic accounting principles and practices to the maintenance of utility customer accounts and other records. An employee of this class is assigned to customer relations involving continual contact with the public; cash receipting and performs general office work. Judgment is required when communicating with the general public and company personnel. General supervision is received from an administrative superior with work being reviewed in the form of accuracy, compliance with departmental policies and procedures, and results achieved.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

• Works at the counter and drive-thru service, interacting with the public providing information, processing applications for service and terminations, receiving payments and fees, and completing work orders.
• Responds to customer inquiries and complaints; reviews and resolves high consumption complaints; explains billing practices to customers; receives utility payments; prepares orders for change in service and turn offs and turn ons; answers inquiries on delinquent accounts.
• Receives calls for utility services and miscellaneous requests; accesses customer service records; inputs, maintains and accesses services location records.
• Prepares insufficient funds notices to customers when checks and other types of payments are returned and may follow up on those transactions; prepares other miscellaneous customer correspondence and s.
• Sorts and maintains s, records, requisitions, forms, and other materials alphabetically, numerically, chronologically, or by other established classifications.
• Maintains and balances cash drawer/petty cash; counts and balances drawer daily; opens and enters all utility payments in batches; balances and closes batches; prepares daily bank deposit.
• Additional duties as assigned by management.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

• Knowledge of utility rate structure and service polices and general utility procedures.
• Knowledge of cash handling, balancing and recordkeeping principles and procedures.
• Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
• Knowledge of general computer systems and software.
• Ability to operate standard computer and manipulate data entry; word processing, spreadsheet and email software.
• Ability to handle cash, make change, balance drawers, cash and transaction reconciliation, and document transactions accurately.
• Ability to maintain routine financial records and perform arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to the general public and to convey explanations of policies, procedures, and requirements in a positive, professional way.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
• Skill in the operation of devises using alphanumeric keyboards, including calculator.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Strong communication and time management skills

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent GED, including or supplemented by courses in basic accounting and modern office practices; experience in clerical work, including public contact; or equivalent training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities, and skills.
