About The Opportunity

• The role of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) encompasses the development, execution, and oversight of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework across the South Western Local Health District (SWLHD).
• The CRO plays a critical role in anchoring risk management as a central tenet in maximising the value derived from public funds within SWSLHD.
• A pivotal stakeholder, the CRO offers specialised counsel to SWSLHD’s operations, enhancing the District’s readiness to address risk, aligning with strategic and service delivery risks, and aiding the executive team in making informed business decisions in line with the Board’s risk tolerance. This extends to facilitating the exploration of opportunities by assisting the Executive in identifying risk management strategies, enabling successful program or initiative execution.
• The CRO is instrumental in guiding risk assessment, analysis, investigation, and articulation. They also contribute to formulating and implementing strategies and processes that mitigate threats to accomplishing the organisation’s corporate and business objectives and desired outcomes.
• ing-wise, the CRO is tasked with crafting and presenting s to the Executive Leadership team, the Enterprise Risk Management Committee (ERMC), and other pertinent committees.
• The CRO’s role is pivotal in steering SWSLHD to transcend isolated risks and grasp overarching trends. Additionally, the CRO is actively engaged in the initial planning stages of major new programs, fostering the adoption of a favourable risk culture from the outset. This encompasses influencing the policy principles that underpin a program (where feasible for SWSLHD) and contributing to project planning to implement novel programs effectively.
• Regular interactions with all Executive Directors underpin the CRO’s responsibility to ensure SWSLHD’s enterprise risk management system remains attuned to risk and opportunity dimensions across all executive portfolios.
• As a guardian, the CRO safeguards SWSLHD’s enterprise risk management program, orchestrating the comprehensive evaluation of organisational risks and opportunities. Furthermore, the CRO is an advisor to the Chief Executive, providing recommendations informed by risk analysis.

How To Apply

• Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline and/or demonstrated relevant work experience and Advanced computer skills, including PC-based word processing and spreadsheet packages, with experience in data analysis and managing risk management databases.
• Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of strategies to promote the efficient and effective management of risk and policy within a complex environment transferrable to health, which aligns with risk management policies, procedures, best practice guidelines and statutory requirements in the public sector.
• Demonstrated understanding and implementation of Policy and Legislative Compliance frameworks as part of a broader Corporate Governance Framework.
• Demonstrated extensive senior leadership skills.
• Demonstrated superior analytical skills and risk management expertise to provide timely, informed, and strategic advice to Senior Executives, the Board, and key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated organisational skills with the capability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated training, coaching, preparation and presentation skills with experience in developing and delivering enterprise risk management programs.
• Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills that enable the position holder to lead, influence, motivate and engage people at all levels.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply government processes and systems, including policy, statutory requirements, and relevant risk management standards.
• Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
