City of Unalaska Hiring for Temporary Waste Water Operator-In-Training at Unalaska, AK Full Time

Salary: $31.29 Hourly

The Unalaska Department of Public Utilities is accepting applications for the position of a Temporary Waste Water Operator-In-Training located in the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor. Unalaska Alaska is a coastal community located in the Eastern Aleutian Islands with a multi-cultural population of approximately 4,000 full-time residents with season influxes from multiple commercial fishery operations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is an entry level position, which under the supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor, performs and assists in a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and technical work in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of City wastewater collection and treatment systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge and/or ability to assist inspecting, servicing, preventative maintenance and adjusting equipment to ensure effective operation of motors, pumps, boilers, filters, blowers, chemical systems and other equipment used in water treatment plants. Assist in operating valves and gates; starts and stops pumps, engines and generators; and operates all other process equipment to control flow and treatment processes as may be required. Assist in monitoring gauges, meters, and control devices; assist in interpreting records readings; observes variations in operating conditions and test results to determine processing requirements. Assist in maintaining records, diagnoses equipment and operations malfunctions, requisitions supplies and s malfunctions to obtain corrective action. Assist in collecting samples and performs standard water treatment tests or analysis as necessary, and applies corrective measures to treatment processes to complete routine assignment and provide utility line locates. Ability and willingness to comply with all City policies and regulations outlined by OSHA and the standards for safety.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma and or GED required; Combination of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis
1-2 years post-secondary education in science, engineering or a closely related field preferred.

1-2 years of experience relating to operation, construction, repair and/or maintenance of waste water collection or treatment systems and equipment is preferred.

LICENSES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History and Drug Testing.
