Position Description
Mechanism is seeking an Operator in Residence (OIR) to accelerate profit growth across multiple high-growth startups in our portfolio. This person will be responsible for owning growth projects across the portfolio, such as conversion rate optimization, AI applications for growth, SEO initiatives, and optimizing paid media campaigns. This role is open to individuals without a growth background. We are committed to teaching the right person everything they will need to be successful on Mechanism’s growth team.
We are looking for an analytical and results-driven overachiever with a strong track record of ownership in the areas they’ve worked in. In addition to being a hands-on individual, you will be a strategic thinker and fast operator, as you’ll need to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including paid media, SEO, product, and engineering to develop and test growth hypotheses. The Mechanism Growth team is a fast-paced environment, and no two days will be the same.
Your ability to analyze data, identify trends, and derive actionable insights will be critical to your success in this role. You will work closely with CEOs and other stakeholders to ensure that all growth efforts align with the overall business objectives, and ultimately you will be responsible for delivering measurable results against key performance indicators (KPIs). For example, this will include monitoring and ing on profit growth, conversion rates, funnel metrics, and retention metrics.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical with a strong sense of ownership over their work. They are consultative, fast, and resourceful.
The role will directly to Mechanism’s Chief Growth Officer.

What You’ll Do

  • You will undergo a rigorous growth training program, where you will develop your understanding of the Mechanism model, and deep dive into all aspects of growth, including growth product best practices, paid media, and SEO. Once you develop and showcase a strong understanding of the Mechanism model and growth best practices, you will own growth projects across the portfolio with increasing scope and responsibility.
  • You will learn how Mechanism launches and scales growth-led businesses, and leverage this understanding to make growth decisions for the projects you own.
  • You will propose and test strategies to improve the customer conversion funnel, optimize user experience, and increase conversion rates in order to increase profit. This includes conducting A/B tests, analyzing data, and quickly iterating to continuously improve performance.
  • You will lead and work on retention projects, developing strategies to engage and retain customers, reduce churn, and increase customer lifetime value.
  • You will step in as Interim VP of Growth at portfolio companies as needed. In this capacity, you will partner closely with the portfolio company CEO and help bring the company to profitability. This will include managing all growth efforts for that company across CRO, paid media, SEO/partnership, etc.
  • You will utilize data to monitor, measure, and on key growth metrics. You will be responsible for generating insights and actionable recommendations to drive data-informed decision-making for your initiatives.
  • You will explore opportunities for AI product management for growth operations to further automate operations and scale up what we do at a lower cost.
  • You will confidently educate portfolio company CEOs on growth best practices and first principles, and effectively communicate the reasoning behind your strategy recommendations and findings.
  • You will work closely with paid media, SEO, product, and engineering to execute on your proposed tests as needed. The ideal candidate will be hands-on and scrappy, and able to execute on some tests independently as well.

  • You have the ability to seamlessly context-switch between portfolio companies in order to develop and execute on growth strategies that meet each company’s needs.

Time Commitment
This role is full-time and will need to overlap with US ET for the majority of the workday. It is an exciting opportunity that demands a level of dedication beyond the standard 9 to 5. We need someone who’s willing to go above and beyond to help us achieve ambitious goals, and who’s eager to put in the effort to make a real impact.
Location
We are fully remote – you can work wherever you’re most productive. We are unable to provide Visa or work permit sponsorship at this time.

Our compensation packages are designed to make this your dream job for the short and long term. Each compensation package is tailored to suit your priorities and can include base, equity, and performance bonus based on the success of our portfolio companies. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and an unlimited time off policy with a two-week minimum.
