Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Coding Mentor, you will help coordinate and direct the day-to-day coding educational activities. You will facilitate and provide coding educational classes or presentations to staff as required/when needed. You will assist Coding Leadership in root cause analysis of coding quality issues, performing account reviews, and preparing training documents to assist with coding quality action plans.

What you will do in this role:

• Respond to coding-related questions from HSC coding staff
• Perform account reviews for appeals that are part of the CPART process
• Enter all applicable changes that occur as a result of appeals in CPART, into the appropriate abstracting system
• Provide Coding Integrity Specialist (CIS) and CQR education as needed
• Initiate the rebilling process as required per policy on special projects
• Monitor staff using Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) for coding comprehension and workflow proficiency.
• Validate user error vs CAC natural language processing (NLP) improvement

What qualifications you will need:

• High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
• Undergraduate (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) degree in HIM/HIT preferred.
• Proven work experience in areas of coding education strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years acute care inpatient/outpatient coding experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years’ coding auditing/monitoring experience strongly preferred.
• RHIA, RHIT or CCS preferred.
