ing to the Director, Information, Communications Technology, the Manager, Systems Operations (Manager) is responsible for the management of the Systems and Database/Applications sections of Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) which provides the day-to-day operations, and support of the informatics systems and database/applications infrastructures throughout the Nunavut territory. The Manager will work closely with other sections within IM/IT to administer, manage, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all day-to-day aspects of the organization. The incumbent will also assist in defining and implementing informatics technology policies, procedures and best practices related to the systems and database/application operational section.
The technical infrastructure includes all servers, operating systems and related peripherals (physical and virtual), all software and their related applications and databases. Responsibilities also include all server room infrastructures and informatics support across the Nunavut territory for all centralized and de-centralized communities. This position will manage the related spending and financial ing for the systems and database/application section. The Manager will manage staff including assigning duties and responsibilities, scheduling work, establishing goals and priorities, monitoring work in progress, setting standards of performance, recommending career plans, counselling and motivating staff, evaluating employee performance, identification and recommendation of training and staff development.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or related Engineering program from recognized post-secondary institution, plus five (5) years related experience in a supervisory or managerial position. Vendor certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, Mitel and ITIL is required. Experience in an enterprise level informatics environment is an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in two or more of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
