Position: Packaging Engineer, New Product Development
Location(s): Open: New Albany, Ohio or hybrid-remote with East Coast preferred. This position is based in our corporate office in New Albany, however, the role is hybrid- remote, meaning there would be some expectations to travel for “moments that matter” – this could be occasionally coming to HQ in New Albany and customer visits on the east coast.
Under the direction of the Director of New Product Development, the New Product Development Engineer manages new products from conception through 1st piece approval and startup of production. Leads the development, design, implementation, and project management of packaging project to include customer-requested changes, new packaging designs, material conversion/cost reductions, packaging equipment procurement/development, and quality and regulatory compliance. Coordinates with Quality and Production teams throughout the project and on startup to assure an excellent handoff to production.
Identify, assess, and implement new packaging opportunities/projects through frequent interaction with our plant leadership teams, customers, and outside material suppliers utilizing your expertise, Anomatic’s continuous improvement culture, and Lean processes.
Lead, guide, and develop Jr. staff members to become successful packaging engineers by teaching good processes, problem-solving skills, and the ability to become independent thinkers.
Essential Functions
- Plays a significant and critical role with the customer, from initial customer conversation through parts shipment to customer warehouse.
- Has full confidence of customers, relative to technical expertise and understanding, product requirements, and the development of all new products.
- Determines and quotes the cost for new projects.
- Develops and writes specifications, creates a bill of materials and generates product drawings.
- Performs component testing and conducts line trials to test and qualify new materials.
- Provides leadership and training to staff to accomplish company goals and objectives
- Owns all component part numbers and part drawings.
- Demonstrates ability to see the “big picture,” be creative, and work at a strategic level
- Documents and files all data, results, s, and any relevant information related to NPD activities in a professional manner.
- Responsible for administering, updating, and documenting product specifications and raw material specifications with vendors.
- Ensures strict protocol is followed for all test methods and quality checks.
- Communicates directly with sales, marketing, and customers to support new ideas and validate project concepts.
- Works with vendors to develop new components based on customer requirements.
- Creates packaging and component specifications.
- Develops a performance-oriented culture with the goals of winning new projects and ownership of all facets of new packaging development and management of projects
- Determine the cost for new project quotations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Packaging Technology or Industrial Design field or equivalent
- 3-5 years experience in packaging, injection-molded plastics, or metal forming
- Acumen and confidence in working and taking the technical lead with customers
- Understanding of SolidWorks, Adobe Illustrator or similar software preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills: conflict resolution, ability to lead in a team environment
- Excellent Interpersonal Skills
- Outstanding ability with 3D form, aesthetics, and graphical layout
- Understanding of the basics of manufacturing and QC testing
- Project management skills and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to travel to Anomatic headquarters (Columbus, Ohio) and/or customer sites (typically on the East Coast)

- Confidence in the communication of technical concepts in a way that all can understand
- Collaboration of all team members to finish a project on time
- Organizational skills will be used as you manage several new projects that will be in all different states of competition
- Critical thinking/Decision making are keys to being able to keep a project moving promptly
- Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem-solving skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Salary: From $80,000. This role is also eligible for a bonus.
