What to Expect
This position will work as a member of Tesla’s Engineering Test Group to support commercial truck level testing for Reliability, Performance and Homologation tests performed in-house and at external test labs. This role’s main objective is to execute truck level tests in accordance with Tesla test procedures. The successful candidate for this position must have a passion for commercial truck maintenance and testing.
What You’ll Do
- Operate pre-production Class 8 vehicles on public, private roads, and 3rd party facilities according to specified test plans
- Specific course-based driving
- Towing
- Functional operations of vehicle systems such as door/trunk/hood cycling, ingress/egress, steering lock to lock maneuvers, etc.
- Ensure trucks are safe for test activities, Identify and accurately communicate changes in vehicle performance or behaviors to engineering teams and technicians
- Support other engineering activities when priorities require doing so.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections following federal guidelines
- Track hours and mileage on Electronic Logging Device (ELD)
What You’ll Bring
- Valid driver’s license with Class A CDL (Commercial Driver s License) with air brake endorsement. Clean driving record and insurable with at least 3 years/300,000 miles of incident-free driving.
- Ability to maintain a clean driving record with an elevated level of safety awareness on the roadways.
- Ability to operate commercial trucks attentively for long durations on shifts with minimal guidance
- Follow DOT (Department of Transportation) guidelines and company policies and procedures
- Confidence is towing, parking trailers lengths up to 53′
- Flexible work schedule to travel to various locations for up to 26 weeks (about 6 months) a year
- Experience with MS office tools (Outlook / Excel / Word / PowerPoint / Project)
- Basic knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral, written, email, and text message instructions
- Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines.
- Great work ethic & team player – detail oriented, safety contentious, courteous, flexible, punctual, and professional and customer focused.
- Position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Current DOT Physical Examination (medical card). Or ability to get once on the role
