Xcimer Energy Hiring for Mechanical Engineer, LPE (Pulsed Power Group) at Remote Full Time
Full Job Description
Xcimer Energy Corporation is looking for a mechanical engineer, responsible for the mechanical design of small and large pulsed power, vacuum vessel, laser chamber, optics conditioning hardware and ancillary systems; vacuum and pressure vessel/component design, hardware procurement support, overseeing of assembly, testing and operation of the above components/subsystems/systems that are integral to the pulsed power driven rare-gas/halide (excimer) lasers being developed for IFE power generation; initially for Xcimer prototype systems, and continuing through the design and demonstration of a power-producing IFE reactor.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical (and thermal) analysis for pulsed power, vacuum, laser, and optical conditioning components using finite element analysis (FEA) for static as well as transient conditions.
- Materials compatibility with corrosive reactants analyses
- Pressure vessel/component and vacuum vessel certifications, over-tests, to prevailing code standards
- Communicate and interact with mechanical, laser and optical engineering members of the design team
- Follow the design of the prototype system and subsystems through Preliminary and Final Designs
- Support procurement of the hardware for the prototype laser amplifiers and optical conditioning equipment
- Oversee and assist assembly by a team of interdisciplinary technicians
- Support shake-down and testing of the laser amplifiers optical conditioning and ancillary systems
- Support ongoing operation of the subject equipment/systems
- Continue above roles and responsibilities to participate in subsequent amplifier up-scaling leading to that which is needed for a power-producing IFE reactor
- Participate in concept studies supporting the use of these lasers in a power-producing IFE reactor, and other applications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (LPE)
- Interdisciplinary experience a plus
- High voltage experience a plus
- A willingness to assimilate knowledge from senior technical staff (40+ years experience)
Xcimer Energy Corporation is a startup pursuing commercial energy production from inertial fusion, using the same fundamental physics recently proven by the NIF (National Ignition Facility) and made economically viable by Xcimer’s novel, low-cost laser architecture. Xcimer was recently selected by the U.S. Department of Energy for federal funding under the Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program. Selection was highly competitive and merit driven, with Xcimer receiving the second-largest federal award after Commonwealth Fusion Systems.
