DMaterial, LLC Hiring for Aerospace Design & Testing Engineer Full Time

DMaterial, LLC, a fast moving start-up company working in the state-of-the-art materials technology industry, is hiring a Design & Testing Engineer for our Bedford Park, IL-based office. Dmaterial’s mission is to dematerialize our world for a sustainable future by reducing the cost and waste of building, transporting and constructing traditional structures, using next generation, ultra-lightweight materials in their place.

If you’re a highly motivated Aerospace Engineer (or Mechanical Engineer with an Aerospace focus) looking to be involved in the full creative cycle for multiple projects- ideation, design, build and redesign—Dmaterial offers an exciting opportunity in which you could help build some of the most innovative and capable aerial systems and advanced structures available on the market.

Many of our ideas challenge industry norms on aerospace structural design and implementation so our ideal candidate is a self-starter, out-of-the box thinker who excels at concept generation and application of high-level estimation which is key to the rapid iteration of our technology. Rapid manufacturing sets our company apart so experience with various forms of additive and subtractive manufacturing is necessary to improve prototype testing iteration times.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design new unmanned aerial systems from ideation to manufacturable unit.
• Design structures and mechanical devices beyond aerial systems.
• Manage multiple design projects through to finished product manufacturing.
• Use CAD to develop, iterate, test and build parts and entire systems.
• Use additive manufacturing to prototype parts and entire systems.
• RF weld materials, CNC parts and assemble prototype systems.
• Design and run structural, wind tunnel, flight and other tests.
• Research and develop timely solutions to challenging problems.
• Identify product development opportunities and push past traditional design limitations.

Qualifications:

• B.S. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree a plus.
• 2+ years in aviation industry experience required
• 2+ years 3D CAD/CAM experience (Fusion 360 or similar)
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of airfoil design and terminology, aircraft design (RC to Light Sport categories)
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PPT)
• Able to obtain high level of U.S. security clearance.
• Knowledge of FAA regulations, operating policies and procedures
• Project management experience preferred
• Manual Lathe and Vertical Mill machining (Aluminum)
• CNC Vertical Mill Programming
• 3D printing (filament/resin)
• Experience designing and manufacturing carbon fiber parts a plus
• RF Welding experience a plus
• Some travel required (10% or less)

Pay: $75,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
